Player Ratings: Roma 1-1 AC Milan – Saelemaekers crucial; many disappoint

By Isak Möller -

In spite of conceding the opening goal of the clash in the 94th minute, AC Milan managed to come away with one point against Roma tonight. Down below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

Starting XI

Maignan (6): He couldn’t do much about the goal (Roma’s only shot on target) and was otherwise very solid this evening.

Calabria (5.5): He did okay in the sense that he was often available and found the right space to move into. However, he made a couple of sloppy mistakes and missed a couple of good chances in attack.

Kjaer (6.5): Very important display from the Dane this evening, being in the right place at the right time. He made several crucial blocks and especially one in the second half, whilst winning many duels as well.

Tomori (N/A): It’s hard to give him a rating given that he only played the first 45. It remains to be seen how serious his injury is, regardless he will miss the mid-week clash due to suspension.

Hernandez (5): Not a performance to be particularly proud of. Maybe one or two good sequences for him this evening, but other than that he struggled in defence and also didn’t add much in attack.

Krunic (5.5): It’s a tough one because he did do many things very well, and he started the game in the same way, but he had too many misplaced passes today. His defensive work was good but Milan need his passing to be good as well.

Tonali (6): He did well in both phases of the game and was almost always present for Milan this evening.

Diaz (4.5): More or less invisible. He got on the ball a few times but never created anything. It’s a shame because he really needs to find consistency.

Bennacer (5.5): Hard work as always, which helped Milan out in many situations, but he also lacked some quality in his execution.

Leao (6.5 – MOTM): He was the only source of creativity up front for Milan. You could argue that he was selfish at times, because he was, but at least he made something happen. The assist for Saelemaekers was, of course, crucial.

Giroud (5): Tough game for him against very strong centre-backs but you would still back him to do better. The one-touch passes just weren’t there today and he lost too many duels.

Substitutes

Thiaw (6): He did well off the bench, winning many duels and also playing his part in the equaliser.

Saelemaekers (6.5): What an important goal that could turn out to be. He very nearly made a huge mistake straight away but improved as the game went on. And the equaliser, as said, was crucial.

De Ketelaere (4.5): Always the simple passes in attack and most of the time, not the best ones. He lost the ball which paved the way for Roma’s opener and such sloppiness just cannot happen on this level. It’s the unfortunate reality.

Kalulu (6): Solid from the youngster, always looking very calm under pressure. Can’t ask much more.

Origi (N/A): He didn’t play enough to get a rating.

  1. We MUST SELL CDK!!! It’s like playing as ten men when he is on the pitch. I cannot comprehend why he plays. He is utter useless. A great pity as he cost 35 million euros.

    1. Agree. I hope we saw the last of him. Even Pioli must realize he’s a liability in this type of game. It’s one thing to add nothing to the attack, Diaz has been doing that for years, but another to lose the ball in dangerous situations.

        1. Sadly (or is it unfortunately) CdK lost the ball that lead to a goal. And 2-5 off days from 30-40 matches is still acceptable. Yet, CdK is on the other side of the coin.

        2. “cdk did ok today.. ”

Wow! The expectations have sunken REALLY low then. He did NOTHING for the team. Not a single useful thing. And as the cherry on top of the cake he was the main reason for Roma’s opener.

          1. if you look at the replay it was a pass to tonali and celik took the ball. What else was cdk supposed to do in that situation than to pass to Tonali? The other Roma guy was already on him and theo went on with abraham marking him. One could argue that it was tonali who didnt secure the ball fast enough… But nah.. cdk to blame. cdk to blame milan didnt get a goal chance in 80min of game time.. cdk, cdk, cdk, cdk

    2. He looked really good at Bruges but here he is dead. Can’t say i am surprise by it. Diaz needed almost 3 years to look good. Pioli just doesn’t know how to get the best from attack players and they need years to understand him.

    3. It’s pretty clear that he’s not the #10 we’re looking for, or at least, we need. The last thing we can do is to play him on different position (still don’t know the reason why Pioli always field him on the same post, with the same result). If it’s not working too, well..

      1. Honestly nobody knows what he does or what position he should play because he shows nothing.

Now we finally playing a 3 man midfield, we should forget about no 10. CDK certainly is not a winger or a striker.
So regardless of his form (or lack of form) he does not fit in this team. So get rid of him while we can.
Focus on getting a winger and striker and midfielder

    4. Can’t disagree about his uselessness, but remember, Tonali and Leao was almost the same in their first seasons.

      Let’s give him another season.

      1. “Tonali and leao was almost the se in their first seasons” are you serious? They were miles apart from cdk. Yes they were not good but you could see flashes of good play here and there. We have seen 0, obsolutly 0 from cdk. I don’t know how some fans keep defending him as he played a few seasons with city or real madrid and showed his skills there. He played on 3rd tier leauge that no body watched. Also, some that say he is still you give him time. He is 22, young but not that young. At 22 players should show something. It’s not like he 17 or something.

        1. I didn’t see anything from Tonali first season, I thought he’s a bust for sure. Boy was I wrong.

CDK might come good or not, but it’s worth giving him another chance. Not everyone at his age can have his stats in that third tier league.

    5. Definitely, Cdk did the worst season ever, worst than Hauge. If management sell Hauge who scored 2 goals for us, so Cdk must be out either.

    6. He actually had a few good moments IMO. Except the loss of the ball leading to the Roma goal; objectively speaking his problem is physique and confidence right now. Boy has the team touch but we set ourselves up instantly comparing him to Ricky Kaka when he arrived…I’m reserving judgement until at least January 2024. I suggest Milan fans also exercise caution in asking he be sold…

  2. Stop it, this fraud coach needs to go. No ideas to break down teams that play with lowblock. Same sh** everytime we face teams that defend deep.

    1. Whilst it is frustrating to see us play against a low block I think it is because of the players instead of the manager. We lack enough creative players. Calling him a fraud is a disrespect to his name cause he has won the scudetto and your comment just further proves that most of our fans are just hot headed and lack reason.

      1. Haha nice try bro, the dumb baldie let the “Pioli is on fire” chants go to his head. He ahs not evolved our playing style, he is always out of ideas when leao or theo has bad games. His only answer to lowblocks is to hoof the ball to Giroud and hope for the best. He is a gloryfied caretaker that should have been sacked long time ago.

        1. You can say that kind thing all you want if Pioli was really given all kind of players he wanted, or at least needed. Simple example is when he said Hakan and Kessie were core pieces of his Milan, yet both players are gone now. Knowing Pioli’s system is extremely particular and the player roles are particular as well, we still can feel that ‘lost’. it’s hard to build your team, or evolve as you said, when you lost your key players each season.

Yet, that man you called dumb baldie is still able to bring us to UCL’s semi, something we haven’t experienced for God knows how long. Given the players he has, it’s yet another miracle he’s done.

          1. Wow spectacular, beat a naive Napoli and rockbottom Tottenham and you guys are are ready to have his kids. The mediocre baldies mediocracy can be seen miles away.

          2. True Ibrahim. I have criticized him and i still do sometimes. However, we are in the semis of champions leauge, and currently 4th in the leauge with 0 QUALITY BENCH PLAYERS. Except saladmaker, kalulu, thiaw. The rest are, well origi and cdk quality. Im sure pioli has his merits.

          3. It’s important to point out Pioli’s system works on creating one on one situations, both in defensive phase and the attacking one, so it goes without saying that the more “individually” quality players he has, the better his team will play and get results. With the players that he has it’s a miracle what he has achieved.

        2. Man, we have a good coach, but, not enough quality backup, especially, in the middle and left-back positions. He deserves great credit for what he has done with the team over the past three seasons, considering the players we have. Regardless of what happens in one game, which is bound to be every now and then, we cannot discredit the coach. The owners should open their eyes to the reality on ground – Milan is just managing. Pioli is only trying to bring out the best in these players.

      2. I think it’s a bit of both. Pioli doesn’t have many ideas against clubs that park the bus (“low block”), but at the same our biggest offensive threat (Leao) requires space to run into AND we don’t have any creative players to unlock parked buses. Not sure if another coach would do better if we don’t bring in a pacey creative player for the right wing so it doesn’t all go through the left. We just don’t have the tools to beat these teams. It’s why we struggle against clubs like Roma and Inter and anyone who plays 5 at the back and parks the bus. it’s almost like we stand a better chance if we make the CL final against Madrid or City than we do in the semis against Inter. Also our depth continues to be an issue. Notice that Giroud and Theo look completely gassed. I’m betting they will be benched for Cremonese. Anyway, we got lucky and paid Roma back with the last minute equalizer. The draw isn’t great, but the loss would have been so much worse. On to the next one.

        1. I see your perspective, but my point is it took him ages to see that we were in need of the central midfielders because our holding midfielders were overrun all the time, all of our defenders had to get injured before he gave chance to any of our youngsters and he is too stubburn and arrogant to change. He keep doing the same mistakes hoping for different outcome, pure insanity.

        2. My point exactly, the squad is not at the level to break down small team. Pioli has done alot with this squad and has one of the highest win rate for a milan manager. Naah123 just have sh*t takes

          1. On what lvl does a team needs to be to break the defense of someone like Salarnitiana and Empoli? We have one of the best Lw and LB in the world. All of our players are not world class but they are not below Salarnitiana/Empoli lvl either. It’s not like Pioli only strugles against better teams like Roma, who by the way played with make shift defence tonight. It’s a fact that Pioli is tacticly weak. He only knows to defend and play counter attack like most mid table Italian teams do. And thats why he strugles when Milan is the favorite and the other team defends deep.

          2. But sarri manages a better squad than the baldie right? Sarri has managed to totally change the way lazio play, but mr baldie is still incapable to break down big bad lowblock. The guy has no plan b.

    2. Naah123 you seem qualified for Pioli’s post…you convinced me,you are the real deal…so many delusional trolls around here, unreal

      1. Haha you are trying too hard bro, stop it. It does not change the fact that your favorite baldie is overrated and should be sacked no matter what happens this season.

    3. lol we don’t have the weapons for it. We can win against anyone in an open game, but even the bigger sides defend with numbers against Milan because they have figured out it’s the only way to pick up points. Can’t blame Pioli fo not doing something we don’t have the tools for.

He’s getting the best out of the players he has.

      1. What he could do that would be mark of an amazing coach is adapt to what is available, be more flexible. But stubburn as he is he keep insisting on lineup, formation and tactical approach that does not work. Come the EF on bro.

  3. Milan need to check in for mazraoui at bayern for the right back! Loan him for a season or 2 so they have money to spend om the transfermarket for a striker and a right wing or put cdk on the right wing

  4. Typical piloi style play. A totally disconnected team lacking cohesion and rhythm. No individual brilliance today, so we couldn’t win.
When a forward player runs to a good position we don’t pass, we do a back pass, and when we pass forward no one makes the movement to receive the ball. Funny playing style

    1. Leao has problems agiant teams playing a 5 back. And when Leao has problems, Milan has problems. I think Pioli needs to think avout how to beat trams with a low block. This doesn’t work at all.

  5. When you have 1 team that parks the bus and another team that is only effective on the counter, you get the worst 100 minutes of football.
That was an awful football game. The teams couldn’t string 2 passes together, not because the defenses were so good but because they can’t make the simplest of passes.
Hopefully somehow we manage to qualify for UCL next season, but over the summer we need several midfielders and wingers that can actually control the ball and have the ability to pass it. Our midfielders can only run, that’s it.
    Forza Milan.
Also, Cristante and Mancini, besides being trash players are also the most annoying. During every stoppage they surround the Ref crying about something.

    1. “When you have 1 team that parks the bus and another team that is only effective on the counter, you get the worst 100 minutes of football.” – Man, well put!

  6. Honestly roma are a dirty team, mourinho goes and play 11 behind the ball and he thinks they deserved more? What a horrible game. Krunic many misplaced passes but I have to focus on one thing in this game, de ketelaere. Sell sell sell, this guy is over 6 feet tall and gets bullied by evvery player that comes his way. Diaz is small and get muscle people. De ketelaere offers absolutely nothing. He doesnt even work hard off the ball, I don’t need to wait for a breakout season. I’ve seen enough from him and if we can get scamacca, hojlund or a bag of balls for him, don’t think twice.

    1. “this guy is over 6 feet tall and gets bullied by every player that comes his way.” – This! This is what I’ve been saying.

  7. My biggest disapointment today in regard of what we can expect of each of our players was theo whom i pretty much otherwise consider our most important player or at least the one that would be the most difficult to replace. His passes was shockingly bad several times and even looked indiferent on some ocasions,i expect a hell of a lot more from him.

    1. I think he’s exhausted. He just looked off the boil all game. He’s literally the only one who doesn’t have a sub. He’s played all but one game, outside of being suspended. We NEED a good back up for Theo almost as much as we need anybody else.

      1. we absolutely need a decent backup but to be fair recently toure was fielded and did a decent job, messing up simple passes and looking indifferent is isnt ok regardless if in fatique as i see it
several players though made a lot of shit passes today but for me he was the worst.

  8. Why was Tomori not rated after playing for 45 mins. He made a few interceptions and good passes before the unfortunate event of his injury.

    1. 😀 indeed but not really sure he was injured but he already got a yellow card and will miss the next game and potentially was in risk of a red card considering the intensity and importance of the match it made sense to substitute him from my point of view.
He should have gotten a rating though,

      1. seems im wrong in regard of him getteng a knock but it still would have made sense substituting him as i see it.

  9. Have anyone note that 95% of Milan loses and draw as been against defensive team. I think Pioli doesn’t have any ideas on how to beat a defensive team. Playing side ways passes isn’t football. None of the midfielder played forward pass.

    1. This has been true under Pioli his entire time. That’s why they struggle against the bottom teams and do better against the top teams that try to attack. Can’t break teams down. No movement and poor passing.

    2. Pioli lacks ideas and the team lacks creative players. Based on hightlights from his past, Adli looks like one but we’ll never know. Creative players who know what kind of passes to deliver to unlock defenses is needed. Right now we don’t either have them or Pioli doesn’t play them. I don’t know if Vranckx can deliver either since we’ve seen too little of him as well.

      1. How can they prove themselves when they never get the chance? I dont buy the excuse his fanboys use, that he sees them everyday during training he must know best. This bullshit coach is killing us.

  10. Tough game. Roma parked the bus as usual so difficult to break down. Don’t understand why Pioli continues to play CDK. Let the kid sit. Gets worse and worse. Leave him on the bench and let him learn without any pressure or expectation. Try Aster, Adli etc…anyone but CDK – kids confidence is destroyed. Pioli only making it worse each time he throws him out there. Not sure how we can go w the same rotation next season of Diaz/CDK lol. Pls sign Aouar on a free before Roma snatch him up. Huge 3 points missed…

    1. He will never improve without playing, but this probably wasn’t the match for him. He needs minutes in the easier matches (which practically don’t exist anymore).

  11. An indifferent game..
What’s it with these players holding onto the ball unnecessarily and doing a misplaced one-two when they are supposed to hold the ball ?

The synergy between Leao and Theo seems off for some games now, I don’t know if others are observing. Leao doesn’t play those one-two to release Theo most times and he just kinda gave up.

Milan really needs a dynamic center forward cus Giroud has served and is still giving more than necessary for his age.

Glad we didn’t loose at the end.

  12. All the issues we have this season go back to the failures of the last 2 summer mercatos, especially last summer.
Almost all the money spent on CDK, who has given Milan NOTHING this season, absolutely nothing. We desperately needed n10 that can create, pass and be able to open up the defense and Maldini gave us CDK. The worst signing in clubs history.
If Milan doesn’t qualify for the UCL next season, someone needs to pay with their job. The same man who costs Milan money by losing the most valuable assets and wasting money on bad players.
I don’t put a lot in Milan getting to the UCL semis. That is mostly due to very lucky draw. First with the weak group and then drawing Tottenham, Napoli and now Inter.
And this is not over reaction because of today’s horrendous game. We have been awful since the beginning of 2023. We have only 5 wins in serie A this year, and it’s May 1st day after tomorrow.

    1. Thank you for being an honest fanboy to the baldie. I can agree that the summer acquisitions have failed big time, but Pioli stubborness played into that failure. He never plays anyone new, why do our new players need to sit and wait for 6 long months before getting playing time? Look at the other teams, their new players got paying time after a few weeks.

      1. Check the previous 3 years under Pioli, see how the team played, before Maldini started losing our best players for free and then replacing them with players from the 2nd tier leagues in Germany and France.

        1. Ok, I concede to that point, I too was dissapointed with transfer dealings of our legend Maldini but my points still stands. The stubburn idiot head manager is given too much credit for developing our you core but in reality Kalulu was given a chance during injury crises the same with thiaw. Not to talk about Vranckx and Adli. He is an expert in not playing the youngsters for months anf then start them in one match and back to the freezer that does wonders for their confidence. Im not saying that vranckx and adli would have made any difference in todays match but my god this guy utterly clueless. But then again how do you explain how Sarri who had to change Lazios playstyle and formation from 352 to 433 managed make lazio preform better especially againt lowblock?

          1. Do we have the quality of midfielders that Lazio has in SMS and Luis Alberto? NO
All of our midfielders put together are not on the same technical level with Luis Alberto or with Sergej. Our midfielders can’t make the simplest passes or crosses.
Also we don’t have a prolific striker that can score 20,30 goals a season like Immobile.
I am not Pioli biggest fan but he is doing the best with what he has at his disposal.
Lazio LW Zaccagni has about the same numbers as our LW Leao.
Our squad is not that good. We didn’t even have top 3 squad last season but won the scudetto because we played the best as a team, and that’s thanks to the coach. This season our squad is even weaker than last year and it shows in the standings.

          2. ” Our midfielders can’t make the simplest passes or crosses.”

This! So bloody obvious after every match. Sick and tired of the lack of creativity – or even basic forward passing – from our midfielders.

          3. @Poli milan hav better players than lazio pther than SMS, Alberto and Immobile. The tactical approach and the fluidity of their game make them not so dependent on immobile, he has just scored 10 goals this season. It the same thing that make a rather average player like Zaccangi and Pedro look like top talents. They play a progressive possession based football that is lowblocks cryptonite.
I dont know if you watched yesterdays game, the fucking baldie must have told the CMs not risk anthyting and recycle the ball rather than pushing forward with progressive passning or movements.

    2. Regardless of what you think about Maldini, he’s the only person at Milan who’s well placed on what this team needs in order to be successful on the pitch. NO ONE ELSE!!

This team that has been built, is Maldini’s team and Cardinale and RedBird would be stupid to let Maldini go. He’s the bridge between the owners and the fans, as well as between the players and the coach.

Maldini wasn’t responsible for the players leaving for free because if any of you knew how Gazidis operates, you would have brought up the fact that he did something similar at Arsenal. It’s a cost cutting measure and was approved by the owners.

Not only that, but it was already known that the players that left for free weren’t considered good fits for our style of play.

What I’ve noticed is that not many of you are willing to give our players any credit for what they’ve achieved. We’re constantly told that Pioli has done a miracle with a team that doesn’t have much quality but don’t remind us that the coach has never won anything until he came across these same players that are constantly ridiculed. I guessing Pioli only became a miracle worker at Milan.

      1. Not only biggest loser but the joke of the town. He was known to only manage a team 1 year or maximum 2 years and then get stuck and start to underperform and get fired. This coaching job is his longest to date.

        1. Winning the scudetto with a poor squad and reaching the last 4 of the UCL makes him one of the best coaches in Europe today. You, on the other hand, are, unquestionably, one of the most clueless, reactionary, so called fans here.

          1. Call me clueless if it makes you live better in your delusion. Other managers have accomplished what he has and more, does not make them great coaches. Is Di Matteo great coach for winning the CL? Is Alberto Zaccheroni great coach for winnig us a scudetto? Be realistic now the baldie has lost the plot and you butthurt fangirls can see it.

      2. Maldini can still be a bridge between the owners and the players in a role where he has no decision making responsibilities, like buying players, negotiating contracts and selling players. Like Zanetti with Inter.
Maldini is currently in charge of buying, selling and negotiating contracts with players, and if those players left for free it’s because of his incompetence not because of Gazidis.
And you actually said that Kessie, Hakan, Gigio and Romagnoli weren’t good enough fit for our system. How come then we played better when they were here than this season when they are not?
Not giving the players credit? This is Milan, not Napoli or Leicester that win 1 title in half a century and thrn they idolize those players for the next 50 years. At Milan you won last season, now you gotta win this season again. But the players are not at fault because the quality of our squad is much lower this season than it was last season and the season before that. And that’s on the man responsible of building the squad, Paolo Maldini

        1. Let’s be rational. Would you really equate Zanetti’s presence at Inter to that of Maldini at Milan? I myself, want to see Maldini in a different position at the club eventually, but definitely not now. I believe that he deserves to be president at some point in time because he’s the only person that the supporters and fans can actually trust.

Most people forgot that he turned down Berlusconi because he didn’t feel that the club’s best interest were being met. He was proven right, when Berlusconi found the shadiest businessman possible to purchase the club. Maldini was also offered a job by Mr.Li, which he also turned down citing similar reasons. Again he was right. Now we come to Elliott, and once again he’s been right all along.

Do you honestly think that it’s a coincidence that Milan adopted the same shrewd policies in relation to renewals of players contracts as Arsenal did while Gazidis was there. Under Gazidis, Maldini didn’t even control the purse, so he would’ve still needed approval for any contract extension. That’s a fact. My case in point; if I remember correctly, Elliott had to sanction the Zlatan deal, because Gazidis was originally against it. Maldini couldn’t sign him without approval because his power has always been limited.

You make a claim that the team has gotten weaker over the last two seasons, subsequently due to letting our best players go and not ideally replacing them. Yet, the stats wouldn’t seem to suggest that. We came second the season before Hakan and Gigio left. The following season we won the league. I’m not sure but maybe I’m missing something. If you’re a honest person, you’ll admit that the way we play right now, neither of the two would be a good fit for the team, especially the keeper. The other two just left, so it’d be difficult to make a fair assessment before the season ends. I liked both players as well, but I knew that they didn’t fit with the vision. I thought it was even more evident when the both of them did separate interviews discussing the differences in training preparations between their present and former clubs. They both spoke about the individual type approach by Milan, where the focus is man coverage and isolated duels compared to their respective sides, who focus more on team tactics and ball retention. When they were quizzed about it, I got the impression that the Milan style wasn’t their preference. I could be wrong but I doubt it because it was also evident on the pitch, especially for Romagnoli.

    3. Excuse me! I beg to differ? You might hate, Maldini and Massara, but atleast don’t call our run to Semi Finals a fluke and because of any favourable draw.. Easy group? So, you wanted Manchester City and PSG in Group Stage? I guess, even if we had beaten Bayern Munich, you would’ve called it a fluke right? When we drew Tottenham and Napoli, you didn’t say the same thing right? You somehow expected Spurs or Napoli to knock us out.. And somehow put all blame on Maldini, but didn’t happen so you are frustrated! And now you are, calling it a favourable draw etc! Wait, even if we win UCL, you will still blame Maldini, for Donnarumma and Calhanoglu next season right? Cause your little brain, only knows to put non existent blame! Perhaps you should support Manchester City or PSG..

  13. What game did you watch? Calabria was literally one of the best players today. Only made one bigger mistake, was almost flawless otherwise. And I say that as someone who isn’t even a huge fan of his. He has been crucial for us the last 4 or 5 games.

  14. Thry forgot to rate Mourinho 10 for the dirtiest, ugliest, style of play coach ever. He is the destroyer of the beautiful game, hope he retires soon. The beautiful game doesn’t need a coach like him. Also whats up with Var, 2 red cards for roma, 1 clear cut red card and not a single review. Giroud wrestled down in the box also a penalty. Bad refereeing 100%. We also lacked that final pass and delivery quality in the box, except leao’s cross. Not a bad bad performance but not that good either. Diaz was the worst in the lineup in my opinion ( credit to roma too) not the same diaz that we’ve seen lately. Im not even talking about origi and cdk, we all have said enough about them. Anyways, 1-1 is not a bad result. We’ll make it top 4. Forza MILAN.

      1. You can tell by his body language. When Diaz and Tonali arrived they were bad but atleast they tried their best when given the chance. You could see the determination in their eyes. But with De Ketelaere he doesn’t care. I so wish he is paired with Zaltan so he can shout at him and teach him how to be a Milan player 😫 😢

  15. THis guy always giving Tonali a full point higher than he deserves. His passing was terrible, every cross straight to the keeper, not even giving his teammates a chance.
How is CDK still getting important minutes for this team? What is Pioli thinking? Zero confidence, indecisive, slow. I don’t get it.
This team under Pioli cannot break anybody down , their passing and movement are awful. That’s why they have always struggled against teams that sit back and defend , including the bad teams. Milan do better against the top teams because they attack and Milan can’t hit on the counter, but Milan cannot create offense any other way. It’s a real problem under Pioli.

  16. Cardinale is to blame.

You need at least 7 good players in rotation. We have 0.

Our first team lacked on right flank, all these years. On attacking midfielder also, this year Diaz did refreshed a little bit.

On bench – we are ZERO.

YOU CANT COMPETE WHEN YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO COMPETE WITH.

Cardinale and RedBird deserve to lose all money in next year.

  17. One thing i don’t understand about CDK, his price was 30+ mil because he scored a lot of goals as a CF. But Milan brought him to be played as a 10, and even that he has been bad as a 10 over and over again Pioli keeps playing him in that position. How about trying him as a CF or anything else at this point just not a AM.

    1. Sure, CDK will outmuscle everyone with his hulk like muscles, outrun all the defenders with his leao like speed, and dribble many players with his incredible Ronaldinho skills. Yup Cf it is. (Hint: sarcasm)

      1. Well that’s where he did good in his old team. Obviously it makes more sense to try him there than to keep repeating something that dosen’t work over and over again. That is to play him as a AM. Pioli played Leao as a CF but he only started to play good after he moved to the wing. It’s worth a shot.

        1. Brugge style of play couldn’t have been more different to Pioli’s Milan. They were the top team in their league.

CDK won’t last 10 minutes as a center forward in Serie A the way Milan plays. It has been tested and proved a couple of times already. Without Giroud’s physicality, fight and heading ability to knock down the long balls for others we’d be in the middle of the table right now. Milan can relieve the pressure with a long ball because Giroud is there to head it and Leao to run in space. With CDK it will never work.

          1. Like we’ve repeatedly said, he can’t score, he can’t dribble, he can’t assist, he can’t make clutch movement, so what do u want us to say about it.

  18. 1. I have NO idea how Jose and his anti-football has Roma in CL hunt. Fuck Roma.

    2. This is why I don’t want us to buy Diaz. Sure, he was great for a month but the last 3 game’s have been garbage.

    3. Yes, we need to get rid of CDK. Swap with Hojlund, Scamacca it doesn’t matter, he needs to go.

4.This ref (Orsato) fucking HATES Milan. Never checks VAR, always a negative game when he is in charge.

    5. Pioli needs to learn to break down a defensive side if he wants to be at the club long term.

    6. Can someone PLEASE teach Saladmaker to shoot? Yes, got the equalizer but those volley shots he misses.

    Forza Milan!

  19. I wish Milan sign Manuel Ugarte of sporting cp and a pacey Right winger alongside a striker ( folarin Balogun, or
Openda ). Release Rebic, Gabbia,Adli, either on loan or sale. Our reserve is full of impact less players. Rafael is our best player but sometimes he behave as if he doesn’t care about the game. This all because of our useless reservers. Nobody is there to compete him.

  20. Whatever the case is, CDK must not be hastily sold. If he will not play, let him go on loan at least. Remember we did not buy him as the most expensive player for nothing. He may be a late developer or a bashful type whose confidence needs to honed. He may after two or three years become an asset. None of the current phenomenons in the hit the ground running in their first year. I urge patience for the lad. I have no doubt he will deliver with time. He needs to attuned to the new environment and 6he style of pay

  21. Winning the scudetto with a poor squad and reaching the last 4 of the UCL makes him one of the best coaches in Europe today. You, on the other hand, are, unquestionably, one of the most clueless, reactionary, so called fans here.

  22. Holy moly whats up with the aggressive comments section today? Sheesh

Anyways, after much defending him for a long time I have to say CDKs confidence is completely shit right now. I squirm everytime I see him play and pray he either gets taken off or the other team doesnt score. It really is like playing with 10 men..he doesn’t know the movements, where he’s supposed to be and how to interpret whatever role he’s been given. I vastly prefer anyone else and this includes the kitman, Kalulu’s chef, my grandmother(RIP) and a pylon.

Now, there’s an argument that he was fouled in the lead up to the goal and that’s a legit argument that can go either way. So I won’t even stress that situation if it was not a foul. But if u look at all the other plays, it’s really low or zero confidence moves he’s making. I feel sorry for him. He needs a different club to take the pressure off. A Milan shirt is a heavy shirt

  23. So much utter nonsense on this thread.

Sack a manager who is miles ahead of the targets he’s been set having won us the title, got us to the semis of the Champions League and has us on course for qualifying next season.

The predicable fantasy football – sell this player/buy this player/why do I bother even supporting a team if I don’t like any of the actual players.

The drama – it was 1:1 away from home against Roma.

The lack of joy – we scored in the last second – again why do any of you watch Milan if you clearly don’t enjoy it?

    Just what is the point?

The only thing I’d call out is again our set plays were poor, and we don’t seem to have established corner or free kick takers.

There’s 3/4 players taking corners, and Tonali hasn’t been allowed take a direct free kick since he scored one!

I just don’t understand how a professional football team does not have established set piece takers and players capable of beating the first man. A team that can’t score from set pieces will always struggle to win trophies because they can be the difference makers in tight games.

    1. Yes, many fans have no sense of perspective. I think Pioli needs to change up his coaching staff. Didn’t we used to score a lot from set pieces when Ibrahimovic started his second spell?

    2. I totally agree Maldinis Heir, we had the majority of possession, Roma had few chances albeit more dangerous ones than ours, and we pulled off a huge last second draw IN STADIO OLYMPICO. Rossi is also right, CDK should be tried as CF, because any mistakes up there are not as costly and Origi is certainly performing worse than CDK We all saw CDK against PSG in champions league last year, we all know Maldini is no fool, perhaps a position change is all he needs. One last thing, Roma played an old school sh#t style of dirty football with enforcers who just were out to injure and Orsato didn’t stop it. That’s why Diaz, Bennacer, and Leao to an extent, had tough games. Leao was literally on the floor three times in the first five minutes with no calls.

    3. My words exactly. It wasn’t a bad result, considering we were playing dirty mourinho in his home turf and stupid ref that let go way to many challenges unpunished. Yeah we missed that final pass but not all bad. Besides set pieces that we been lacking all season, those crosses were horrible. Also, lack of quality subs (except saladmaker and defensive subs) punished us last night and whole season.

    4. “The only thing I’d call out is again our set plays were poor, and we don’t seem to have established corner or free kick takers.

There’s 3/4 players taking corners, and Tonali hasn’t been allowed take a direct free kick since he scored one!

Right. And this is a coaching issue. Also, parking the bus and double teaming Leao because you now Milan have nobody else is a personnel issue. So whether you like it or not, we have a coach that cannot beat teams that drop deep (of which making uses of set pieces is an important part), and we need players who can create (so some new players), or at the very lest we need a Leao equivalent on the right side. Just saying.

    5. Yea the manager issue is ridiculous. There’s no way in I can ever hate Pioli after he brought us a Scudetto and semis to the UCL with THIS squad. He’s doing miracles. Yes all managers have their limitations, all of them do but I know for sure theres no other manager that can improve our players the way he does.

  24. Relax, rela-XXX we still can make it to UCL next season if we win UCL or WITH the support from UEFA to ban Juve from Europe

    1. Atalanta only 2 points behind and if Inter win today Milan are once again out of TOP4. Milan needed the 3 points and it was on the table for them to take (Roma having so many players out) but no, Milan didn’t seize the moment.

      1. And based on yesterday’s performance there is no chance in hell Milan are going to drop Inter from the final. Zero chance of that happening.

        1. Did they not say the same thing about Spurs and Napoli as well? If yesterday’s performance, mattered then, we would’ve been out of Champions League a long time ago! This isn’t Coppa Italia, this is Champions League..

      2. Inter are in top four, only for the time being.. It’s not that, they have secured Champions League for next season!

Most important: Since head to head, doesn’t count against them, so it’s time, we be clinical in front of goal, and have better goal difference than them!

  25. Roma played well. Compact. Physical – typical Mou’s team. I believe players learned a lot last night

    next game we’ll be better

    1. ” I believe players learned a lot last night”

Like Benny & Tonali have learned from their previous +100 corner kicks NOT TO aim at the first opponent every time? LOL, yeah, I believe it when I see it.

  26. We desperately need to score. Genius Pioli sends in the clown duo of CDK and Origi. Even an exhausted Giroud crawling on the ground is more likely to score. Even Rebic. Hell, send in Tatarusanu, he might score from a header! Insanity.

    1. This. Pioli threw in the towel when the Belgian Super Duo came in to save the day. Thank God there is one single Belgian on the team that can hit between the posts from 2m once or twice per season. I don’t think there’s anyone that delusional who would think that CDK or Origi would have scored from that Saele’s chance.

  27. Man I can’t wait until Mou retires and takes his anti-football and grumpy face with him. And now CDK’s getting assists… for the opposition. Really starting to lose patience with this kid. I don’t remember Tonali or Leao being this bad.

    1. “Really starting to lose patience with this kid. ”

Maaan, I envy your patience. I mean… Starting to lose when there’s only one month left? We’ve all been there but ages ago. I think some one of us lost it already in October. 😀 😀 😀

  28. I can’t see how Milan will be able to beat Inter in the CL. Inter will play with the same mentality as Roma did. The difference between Roma Inter is that Inter has Lukaku, Matinez, and Dzeko.
We matched well against Napoli because Napoli doesn’t park the bus like Roma.
Against Roma, Milan needed a player who could take on defenders individually and create chances. Leao can do that but only on counters not against a low-block defense.
Bennacer playing in the #10 role is useless. He cannot play with his back to the goal either. Bennacer is much more useful in bringing the ball out of the back.
