With Giorgio Furlani being named as the new top dog of AC Milan’s management, there may be some concerns, given the recent issues. However, it seems he may not be the issue.
There have been several problems with the management in recent years, and the ‘group’, if you want to call them that, have often been public enemy number one for Milan fans. However, that may be to do with specific components in that team.
Fans’ views of Gerry Cardinale are heard regularly at San Siro or elsewhere, but there has also been criticism of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his traits since moving back to the club. This, for some, is where the problem lies.
On his X account, journalist Fabio Ravezzani looked to identify the issues and support Furlani after his appointment, stating that he is not the issue in this management and comparing the situation to Paolo Maldini’s time at the club.
“Furlani was at the club alongside Gazidis and Maldini. With these gone, they put him alongside Ibra who has done more damage than hail. Giving him carte blanche at least brings clarity. He knows how to count. If he finds a great director and abstains from the sporting area, he can do well.”
“He knows how to count”
I can’t even. SMH
Look at it soberly. Furlani is in charge of finances. Finances look better than ever. He’s not THE problem. He’s a problem.
Whoever was in charge of the sporting side is the real donkey here. Which from the looks of it was the Swede and the Frenchman.
For Lonnie has always been Elliot. Under Elliott we were more or less clean and solid. Then this year the Brown hit the fan under Redbird. Now with Furlani having been reinstated in control, hopefully next season Elliott cleans things up again.
Whether or not Furlani had something to do with Maldini‘s firing is a secondary issue. Although I think it was a multilevel failure on all fronts to let go of him …
True but hasn’t Furlani now been “given the keys.” It could just be to the toilets but I think they mean to the whole club…
I don’t know why people keep focusing on Maldini as some kind of jesus who came and solved all of Milan’s problems by himself. If Maldini is anything, it is primarily the identity and history of Milan. Of course, this is hugely important, but I think that somewhere that got transmuted to “Only Maldini is responsible for all of our recent success”. I guess his is what happens when you are one type of legend. You just automatically become legendary in everything else.
But the fact is that until the day he got fired, Maldini’s title was “Technical Director”. The “Sporting Director” was Frederic Massara. Massara, with Maldini’s help, was the architect of the 2022 scudetto. Plain and simple. Maldini assumed his post in 2019 with not an ounce of experience as a manager. To be precise, during season 2019/20, when players key to Milan’s 2021/22 scudetto were bought, namely, Leao, Theo, Bennacer, Ibrahimovic, Krunic, Salaemaekers, and Kjaer, along with coach Pioli, Maldini has barely months on the job. The people running the club were “Managing Director Sport” Boban and “Sporting Director” Massara. If Maldini had a hand in, say, motivating Theo to join Milan, that’s great, but that doesn’t make the the “architect”. It just means Theo looked up to a footballing great. Someone still had to identify him and then negotiate the transfer. That was Massara and then Boban.
Of course, as already mentioned Maldini played a role, being such a renown figure in the game, by helping attract talent, and under normal circumstances had he continued with the club it is completely possible that he could have risen to have been the actual Director of Sport at some point, and probably even club president. But Massara is a professional manager and the final responsibility at the time must have lain with with him.
So let’s stop with the “Maldini Maldini Maldini” already, because while he was important, and is important, and was poorly treated, he wasn’t the main person responsible for our recent success and he certainly wasn’t there by himself. I’m just asking for some reality, and less fanaticism.
Sorry, correction to the above: Maldini arrived during the 2018/19 season, initially with the title “Director of Development”, which is god knows what, but sounds like something to do with youth player. He spend one season at that post and then went to “Technical Director”. So he was there for a little longer than I originally gave him credit for, but I don’t think it makes that much of a difference. You don’t learn how to run a club, or at least a club’s transfer window and contract negotiations, in 1 year.
But he was not only a motivational figure but also bought key players including leao, tomori, tonali, kalulu, thiaw , Theo etc.
Both Maldini and massara did a good job working together.
Obviously squad value increased. Better stats and financial gain
thing is you missed a huge part of what Maldini did at Milan, not only did he bring in our best players, he brought in the winning mentality which is more important than anything else, he raised the Bar and the team was hungry, the atmosphere at the club was completely different , we broke winning steaks everyone was on fire bcoz the team had a heightened sense of unity, we won a title and ucl semi after that, the team needed max 3 signings and we wld have been on top for long time
If you can’t understand the Maldini factor in the resurgence of Milan, despite everything you’ve see thus far.
Even if they typed a full length paragraph to you, you still would not get it.
No shades, I seriously mean it but it’s the truth.
Even from your write up, you just denigrate Maldini to basically a poster boy. Quite amusing really.
Maldini brought respect belief and trophies that’s a fact unfortunately with Ibra as much as a legend he is he doesn’t know the club as well he’s been a journey man good one yes but no Maldini where he’s like a stick of blackpool rock ( it’s a British thing ) but it doesn’t excuse redturd and there business strategy ….and make it like most American things big fat and useless
All that yapping for the most $tupidest point ever..
Massara was everything but Maldini was just a cannon fodder
LMFAO
there is no cure for a brainrot.
I know 😂 is he for real?? That’s how low the bar is for Milan right now
Furlani complain to Cardinale and that led to Maldini being dismissed.
Look at Maldini interview and stop being a PR for furlani and that clown American owner

Maldini caused this mess when he let Kessie leave instead of paying him. We are still struggling to fill that CDM role because of him.
Maldini was operating on the salary cap and Kessie and especially his agent the snake were lying purposefully and stalling the negotiations.
Still doesn’t mean that Maldini couldn’t find another CDM in the next two years he was here.
I find it silly that even fans could identify where the weakness was in the team, but the absolute legend of a player and his supporting staff were oblivious to it.
And yes Bennacer playing 2 months every season didn’t help either.
When the Owners want to decrease the salary cap.
What can he do ? It wasn’t his fault for Kessi leaving.
But that’s where the mid got weaker and subsequently the team,
When you win the league, then you need to make additions and spend to achieve it in the Europe too.
Milan is not about just running a profitable business but also to win trophies.
After the scudetto, the following season was a injury filled season, only tonali was good, if not let kessi go, it won’t have been a much better season.
Milan couldn’t afford to have multiple players on high wages back then, we were still in UEFA bad books. From what I read it seemed Kessie agent changed their demands and Milan refused to agree to it. It is what it is that’s football. I can’t really blame Maldini cause we still had Tonali who is capable of defending, after selling Tonali we had no cover for cbs at all
You said it all. No one wants to look that direction, everyone forgot how bad Maldini is with handling business and diplomatic renewals.. we lost Donna, hakan, and Kessie then ended up with Diaz, vrancks cdk, origi lazitic Thiaw and other nonsense.. the most painful part was that people, fans only blame pioli.
One man kicked out (indirectly) the other two in this pic
And this man will continue to kick out more in current squad.
If you have a high hope in this, ‘Warning’ here.. haha 😉
This same little singer Furlani chased away Maldini and Massaro. What are you writing about anyway? Who sold Tonali? Today you present him as the Messiah. Come on, please.
maldini screw up and wasted 100 million. move on. in any business, he would have been sacked a long time before he did.
Are you saying Maldini wasted 100 million,
Can you explain?
this stuart is a rat, bite here bite there, he know numbers, it’s easy to pay some journalist to present him as an angel, but Legends & fans? none w/ him
What ACM need are experience DS not ibra or moncada the scout. Tare or Berta are good choice
It’s very simple: If Furlani got on well with Maldini and Massara, as this article appears to imply, and Furlani now calls all the shots at ACM following the coup d’etat last week, he should bring M&M back. It’s the only sure way to heal the hurt felt by most ACM fans and restore their faith in the club after the damage done to it since that fine pair, who helped guide the team to a Scudetto and a CL Semi Final, were excommunicated by Cardinale.
ACM today bears no resemblance to its great teams that were idolized by its fans in years gone by. As a lifelong Milanista, I didn’t think I would ever say this, but it’s our city rival Inter, with its competent Italian coach, solid core of Italian players, very good foreign contingent, strong and competitive mentality, and worthy results in Serie A and the CL that reminds me of what ACM used to be but is no more.
Cardinale, who bears ultimate responsibility for our team’s decline, isn’t fit to be a lowly abbato at Casa Milan, much less the Papa of our sacred club.
ACM fans around the world should write to UNESCO and ask it to add our club to its World Heritage List, to stop RedBird from vandalizing it any further and completely desecrating it.
Paolo, Legend! Ibra, Clown. Pretty simple really.
And how about Gerry show up for more than one match a season?? Where’s his love for the club? Where’s the sense of pride at being the owner of this historic club? He couldn’t even be bothered to come for the 125th anniversary, it’s a travesty.
