CorSport: Ready and recovering – the parts Leao and Fofana should play in the Supercoppa

AC Milan have been forced to fly to Saudi Arabia with a few players not quite ready, and they are key options.

Massimiliano Allegri’s team for the Napoli game will certainly be interesting, with the Italian keeping his cards close to his chest. However, it should be pretty standard by all accounts. Given he fielded his strongest team against Sassuolo, we can only imagine it will be the same here.

However, there may be a change or two if players recover.

Leao and Fofana’s recovery

Matteo Gabbia and Santiago Gimenez both did not travel, whilst six Milan Futuro players received a call-up. Then there is Rafael Leao and Youssouf Fofana, whose inclusion in the tournament is being questioned.

As Corriere dello Sport writes, the Frenchman has recovered from his muscle problem, and he will be ready. Then, there is Leao, but his case is not so simple. He has resolved the issue, but his place is a little questionable at the moment.

In his press conference, Allegri stated that today’s training session would give more information about when he will play, which the report confirms. At most, he will be on the bench for tomorrow, and if the Rossoneri progress, he will have the aim of starting.

  1. Fofana yes, go play. But Rafa should be benched and saved for Serie A. nobody cares about this cup. (other than Conceicao last year)

    1. Well even though competitions wise Super Coppa and Coppa Italia generally isn’t high on my radar I nevertheless care as I want Milan to win each and every match and tournament we play even if I doesn’t hold them as high as for example Serie A or CL. Winning matches or tournaments breeds winners and we should always show up with the same winning mentality as in all of our games. Well obviously we shouldn’t risk semi injured players either but this is at least my 5 cents on the matter.

    2. Don’t say “nobody cares about this cup”. If you don’t care then say you don’t care. The team and the players cared about it last season, it was the one bright spot of the season. We don’t have many chances at trophies this season with no European play and already out of Copa Italia. I don’t think 2 extra matches is that big of a burden for the club. Plus they can definitely use the money.

  2. Players care about winning trophies. To take the position the a trophy doesn’t matter won’t sit well in terms of building a winning team.
