Francesco Camarda is exactly what AC Milan want – whether it be the fans or Paulo Fonseca. A player that bleeds Rossonero, and will ‘die’ for the badge.
In recent months, Fonseca has been on a loop – through no fault of his own – about his desire for a team game. A team that is strengthened by individual brilliance, rather than being built by it, and for this reason, players like Camarda are a must.
The 16-year-old has proved time and time again that he will fight for the club in any setting, and whether he plays nine minutes or 90, he will try to make an impact.
For this reason, Milan News writes that the head coach ‘only wants’ players like Camarda – players who are ‘ready to die for Milan’. The youngster consistently shows character and personality, ‘always trying to give his best’ and his efforts are seen and appreciated by the Diavolo faithful, who always applaud his entry.
We have seen Leao become more team-oriented under Fonseca, whilst also evolving in his own right, and the Portuguese head coach probably hopes that Theo Hernandez can follow a similar path, especially after his rant to the press about the wavering levels shown by his team.
Is he actively trying to lose the locker room with comments like this?
I thought that his comments were dangerous for the locker room and said I would have preferred that he had said these words to the team behind closed doors rather than publicly, to the press.
However now I’m changing my mind a little bit. I think Fonseca wants to shake things up by saying it publicly, and maybe he will succeed. Similarly, I initially wasn’t happy with his treatment of Rafael Leão because I thought that we dropped some points by not having him playing, but now I think, like many do, that obviously Leão has reacted well to what Fonseca did to him and is actually playing better and showing more commitment to the team, and more effort (so, those dropped points got tallied back, for example, by Leão scoring one of the two goals against Red Star; without his goal we’d have tied 1-1 and dropped two points, so, some dropped points by not having Rafa, are coming back by having Rafa playing better). So, it seems like it worked. Just look at the stats; before Fonseca got tough on him, Leão was having a relatively small number of goal participations, below his usual, and now he has recovered his usual, collecting now 11 goal participations (all competitions) which is now tied with Pulisic’s (also with 11), while in the first part of the season, Puli was way ahead of Rafa. So, before we crucify Fonseca for that, let’s realize that at times, his approach to player management does work.
Let’s also realize that while Fonseca said it publicly, he didn’t name names, publicly.
We now have learned by rumors that his words were apparently directed at Theo, Tomori, and Calabria.
I can understand it being directed at Theo, who is clearly distracted and unmotivated; the Theo we know and love is absent, and maybe Fonseca is trying to shake him up so that the real Theo can emerge again. Theo used to be essential for our victories and part of the dropped points have to do with how poorly he’s been playing; not contributing much offensively, and contributing to goals being conceded, defensively (Theo is not the greatest of defenders; we all know that, but this season, he’s been particularly bad at it, more than his usual).
Tomori, I think he’s been having a poor attitude for a while; often with disciplinary problems; how do you collect a yellow and get suspended from the next match, when you weren’t even playing??? Tomori has antagonized refs, collecting silly yellows, and has rebelled like when he gave the ball to Abraham for the PK, disrespecting Pulisic. Tomori does need to be disciplined by the coach.
Calabria, I don’t know. I don’t think he lacks effort. I think he tries hard. I do see a technical decline which is weird because Calabria is still young. I do know that Calabria refused to speak with the coach after he was subbed out against Red Star. However I do not think that this kind of thing is so grave. Almost all players get unhappy when they are subbed out. That’s a common occurrence that could be handled in a lighter manner. Rather than punishing him, the coat could just say, “oh, come on, Davide, you played for a long time today; you are still fresh from an injury; subbing you out is normal; let’s not take it so seriously!”
See, Pulisic did the same thing when he was subbed out in a game. He emphatically said out loud “Why??? Why???” but Fonseca didn’t do anything to him. Well, it would be absurd to punish Puli whose commitment and work rate are spectacular and exemplary, but I’m just saying, even mild, timid, hard-working nice guy Pulisic can question the coach when subbed out, so why can’t Davide?
As for Camarda, absolutely! What a gem! Skill, personality, and commitment, all at the highest levels. He bleeds rossonero and has refused greener pastures to stay with the club. We love Camarda and we want him with Milan for the longest possible run.
The coach is absolutely right about this. I’m tired of players like Theo who always put themselves over the team. You can’t give a full effort, sit on the bench.
This. Absolutely.
Whether players like or respect Fonseca or even agrees with his tactical choices the players better always give their utmost otherwise then they are simply neither fit or worthy to represent this illustrious club or for that matter being professional athletes at the highest level of the sport.
No players has any alibies to act as they see fit.
A football club isn’t ran as a democracy where every opinion matters as much as the other.
If a coach can’t get the necessary respect of the clubs players then ruling with an iron fist is the next step and I’ll suggest using heavy fines if the players can’t live up to simple demands and if the players doesn’t like it they can pack their bags and move onwards with their careers somewhere else.
No one excluded.
Only wants players like Camarda but sanctioned the farming out of Maldini and Adli…make it make sens??!!!!
We don’t know if he sanctioned it, or if simply the managers didn’t even listen to him.
We used to have players that ready to die for Rossoneri, you know like Tonali, Kalulu, Colombo, and Daniel. But the new management doesn’t want them :/
And i get what Fonseca wants but holy f* can he do it more subtle?
Wants players like camarda who would bleed an die for the shirt, but then Aldi and Maldini got sent away.
Same. Kind of players he claims he wants. Yea it is opposite day. Glad I cleared that up.
Well, desire is one thing, but you also have to be good enough to play at a club like Milan and while I appreciate both Maldini and Adli, they are not at that level.
I support Fonseca actions totally. Theo especially seems to be absent minded when milan is playing to lesser teams, He struggles to recover and help the defense when its necessary, i remembered when under poli, most of our CB where out injured , he went into that position and did pretty well. Now that we have gotten a convincing pair of CBs, I expect the RBs to be at their top best.
As a coach and a fan, it is frustrating to convince yourself that milan would keep a clean slate. You keep on seeing individuals’ errors, especially when they are playing teams they are expected to trash and climb the table. Imagine Musa who was expected to shield the defense against the Serbian opponent losses the ball at very critical position that led to the equalizer. If not for introduction of camarda, I doubt if we would have won that game. Alot is going on and I think the coach has to vent his furstration publicly since dressing room/training ground talks is not working. Let see how this one unfolds and as for me, if bringing some futuro players to balance the team would work why not? Afterall the greatest payers the world has ever known started shining at tender age. We can’t always have mush coming to balance the team while we sacrifice our attacking abilities on the altar of balancing the team. A good team must attack and defend simultaneously and be physically and mentally alert in a game for 90mins. Yes forsenca and management shares in the blaming game but the player as its now received more blame from me as their lackdestical attitude is insane and nauseating.
…and, easily, they happy to sell guys like Tonali
Milan News is part of Milan, they can be directed and operated under the Management.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with try harder.
But asking to die hard, does it mean they’re going to sell the player harder?? It’s pretty easy, I think the players are not dumb.. haha
