Sport: Real Madrid have Milan star as ‘Plan C’ but not with €200m clause

By Oliver Fisher -

Another source in Spain has reported that Real Madrid are interested in signing AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, but they don’t want to pay a transfer fee.

Sport (via MilanNews) write that Leao is on Real Madrid’s list of targets in view of the next transfer windows, but the release clause that Milan intend to set in the event of a renewal – which should be around €200m – is seen as too high a figure by Los Blancos.

The LaLiga champions could therefore make a concrete attempt to sign the 23-year-old only if he rejected Rossoneri’s offer or offers to extend his contract, thus opening himself up for a free transfer in the summer of 2024.

However, the paper also also specifies how the former Sporting CP and Lille star represents a ‘plan C’ for Real Madrid, behind Erling Haaland of Manchester City and Endrick who is currently playing at Brazil.

  1. If Leao re-signs with Milan, which would mean accepting a lesser salary than what he could get in Chelsea or another interested club, that would come on the expense of a lower release clause than the current 150 mil not higher.
That would be the compromise Milan would have to agree on.
Makes no sense feo Leao’s camp to agree on a 200 mil release clause and give up future leverage
