The complicated legal battle that Rafael Leao and, by extension, AC Milan find themselves in with Sporting CP is taking another twist with a new appeal being launched, a report claims.
Portuguese newspaper Record has reported that Sporting are getting ready to take their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) as they seek to receive the €45 million they feel they are owed.
Leao terminated his contract with Sporting in 2018 when fans stormed the training ground. Sporting want €45 million as that was Leao’s release clause at the time and they received nothing.
The Portuguese Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Sporting are owed €16.5m, and that ruling was backed up by FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber.
A new appeal from Sporting will be made to CAS as they continue to seek the €45m. It is a case that heavily implicates Lille as they signed Leao on a free transfer, but it also makes Leao’s potential renewal or departure from Chelsea a more complicated matter.

I’d hate to sound like a conspiracy nut but a few days ago it was widely reported that Sporting CP officials were sighted at Chelsea FC offices and rumoured to be discussing the financial mess that’s their Rafa Leao dispute. Its also severally been reported that Leao wants only Milan and would even reject Real Madrid, which is maybe the only FC I can honestly say would be an upgrade on us. He seemingly wants Milan first, and now suddenlySporting are moving on the Appeal? No coincidence.
I wouldn’t put it past CFC (now seeing him about to renew with us) to be behind Sporting’s fresh push for a 45M fine. If Sporting wins their appeal, Rafa has to raise a Colossal portion of the fine, at best half of it plus costs of suit. Or, maybe in swoops CFC (Rafa’s erstwhile saviours) who pay Sporting off whatever his fine is and even ‘generously’ gives our boy a 7-8m/year deal max. Salary could be more but they’re paying off his Sporting post-appeal fine so he’s not getting more for now. Only catch is CFC must not have to buy him from us, ergo he doesn’t resign, we lose a player on free and Chelsea can get him for 45M or half that if the fine is equally split with LOSC. CFC get Rafa Sporting get paid, we get royally f*cked and life proceeds…
You know, I’m not a conspiracy theorist either, but I have to say your theory is interesting. Mendes is in the thick of things, so I wouldn’t put it past a conniving agent to help concoct such a plan.
This dumb team called sporrting are only going after because because from all the players that terminated his contract with Sporting in 2018 when fans stormed the training ground is because he Leao is the only one that turned into a good player!They should leave Leao and go after Mendes because most likely it has Mendes that influenced Leao to leave to Lille braking is contract with sporting!
Maybe because Leão wasn’t there when the fans invaded the training grounds and he terminated the contract with no valid reason?
this shows dimvulla is not a competent lawyer, for sporting to agree to terminate leao’s contract they should not expect anything. their though was that leao won’t grow and develop. termination of the contract was mutual.

Milan need to make a deal where Leao signs a 6m a year contract of a five year length, and Milan pays what he owes Sporting over the 5 years. Leao will accept this and he is definitly worth it! We can`t afford to lose any of our protagonists if we want to keep ( and improve on ) the gains we`ve made these last seasons. It really is that simple. If Leao was to be sold his new club would take on his debts.
This is complete crap from sporting. Why not doing this in that time leao in lille. After ACM develop leao and sporting see his value increase success then they started to court. Lille and jorge mendez should take responsibility for this crap. I think leao wont renew with ACM as long as sporting keep lurking in shadow unless ACM want to pay sporting for leao ( well thats imposible) . I think ACM dont have choice to sell leao to highest bid next summer or use him 1 year more then let him go free transfer. Renewal are imposible unless ACM willing to pay leao fine to sporting
