Paulo Fonseca

CM: Referees share ‘rage’ at Fonseca – what punishment they are calling for

Paulo Fonseca has been a controversial figure since joining AC Milan, and now, he is being targeted by a new group – the match officials.

Milan’s defeat to Atalanta on Friday night was more than damaging. The Rossoneri could end the weekend 13 points behind Napoli (should they win their fixture), and any hopes of a Scudetto challenge are dead in the water.

Unfortunately, hopes of a Champions League place are also looking unlikely, given the current six-point gap to fourth – however, this could extend as well, with games yet to be played.

For Fonseca though, there were bigger problems on his mind after the game, and instead of taking fault for things, he made an outburst at the officials, suggesting that things are different for Milan than they are for other teams.

Statements like this will, obviously, frustrate referees, and the officials want to make a stand against the Portuguese head coach, according to Calciomercato.com. Following his outburst, there is a shared rage directed towards the Diavolo’s head coach, and there are hopes of a ban.

Although there are no suggestions at the length, the report states that referees are ‘demanding respect’ and want a ‘maximum disqualification’ for Fonseca, a decision will be made by the FIGC.

  1. yeah, protect precious refs… even though there were more problems than refs vs Atalanta, the victim-hood of these clowns are laughable… who the f do they think they are that they can’t even be judged?!

    1. It’s essential for the game to work for refs to be respected otherwise the whole thing descends into farce.

I mean why do we randomly restrict people from using their hands and what’s the deal with the spherical balls and the goals?

Sport creates novel ways to test ourselves and refs are essential to imposing the rules of that novelty.

Plus the league table doesn’t lie. We are where we are entirely on merit.
