MN: A regret and a flame still alive – two names from Milan’s summer re-emerge at the World Cup

By Oliver Fisher -

Two names that AC Milan negotiated over during the summer transfer window have come back into prominence given their exploits at the World Cup.

In his latest column for MilanNews, Pietro Mazzara mentions how ‘two names from the summer market re-emerge’. The first is a regret, namely Enzo Fernandez who is shining for Argentina having scored his first World Cup goal in the win over Mexico.

Milan had scouted the midfield talent extensively with Geoffrey Moncada focusing on him, but the signing was not sealed because the strategy of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara was to focus on Renato Sanches, who ended up joining Paris Saint-Germain while Fernandez went to Benfica where he is also impressing.

The second is more of an ongoing situation and it concerns Hakim Ziyech, who was the creator of Morocco’s second goal in their victory against Belgium yesterday. The Chelsea winger would solve a lot of issues on the right flank, and he continues to be linked given his lack of playing time.

  1. The Enzo Fernandez- Renato Sanches case is another example of Maldini’s inability to read the situation and realize when he won’t be able to sign or re-sign a player, but instead he still continues to pursue a lost cause.
That happened with the players we lost on a free, and that happens every transfer window with transfer targets.
Renato got 6 mil from PSG but Grande Paolo was after him all summer long offering 3.2 mil. He thinks , just like his fan boys, that player piss themselves from joy when he calls them, even though there is no proof besides Theo that he has convinced any player of note to choose Milan over another club.
But let’s allow his fans to continue lying themselves that Paolo stole Tonali from Inter with 1 phone call.
Thank you, Antonio Conte, for giving us Sandro Tonali

    1. Focusing on Sanchez was a mistake, Tonali was a gift from Conte, if Theo’s wife wasn’t expecting a baby who knows if he would stay… The reality is Milan is a disaster in negotiations… i wouldn’t be so harsh on commenting about Maldini, he is learning and on Renato he was a free player, and they have to pay for Enzo… and Milan wants to get back on the winning track without spending, at least with Eliot, we will see with the new owner if there is some possibility of spending.

      1. Renato wasn’t a free agent. His transfer fee and salary were higher than Enzo’s.
And this is not an issue of funds.
Milan missed out on a cheaper, younger, more reliable player because they were chasing injury prone bust who had no intentions of coming to Milan

    2. What you don’t know or don’t want to understand is Maldini couldn’t sign officially any player until he himself was signed by Elliott. It’s obvious no players would wait for eternity not knowing if Maldini would still stay at Milan. Most of the time the agents make things difficult with their commission. Understand that Maldini can’t move if the management doesn’t provide the funds or accept to greenlight a transfer. You never mention the importance of the owners in the transfers because you’re so obsessed with blasting Maldini

      1. @BensonMilan mate.. what you are talking about, is a sensible logic.. which needs brains to understand and These Haters barely have any. Every news is just another hate Maldini bull$hit for these m0rons.
