MN: Reijnders 2.0 is Milan’s ‘lighthouse’ after superb start to the season

Tijjani Reijnders has been heavily praised so far this season, and there are no signs of this changing any time soon as the Dutchman continues to impress.

Last season Reijnders was, by no means, bad, however, he certainly was not at the level which he has been consistently this season. This is probably due to the trust that Paulo Fonseca has in the midfielder, partnered with a solidified role, and Milan are winning as a result.

As Milan News recalls, the Dutchman was superb once again against Sassuolo, and ‘what a player Tijjani Reijnders is’ is being repeated by the Rossoneri on a growingly consistent basis.

The midfielder was not ‘100 percent’ last season, and to call him bad would be a disservice, because he has always shown his qualities, just to a varying degree. This season, though, he has realised his potential, and Reijnders 2.0 leaves the Diavolo regularly in awe.

One of his biggest flaws of last season was his lack of presence in attacking areas, but this has been solved this season, and the numbers support this: seven goals in his last eight games. Reijnders is without a doubt a ‘lighthouse’ for the squad, and an ‘indispensable pawn’ in Fonseca’s system.

Therefore, the news about his imminent renewal only adds more joy to the Rossoneri, more than Reijnders already brings.

    1. Not really.
Last season, he seemed to have a less commanding presence, most of his passes were lateral and were non-threatening. He didn’t do anything wrong in particular but had nothing to show for.
This season is different. I see a player who takes more initiative, who passes the ball well but also makes himself available to receives another pass. He puts the opposition’s midfielders and defenders in bad positions and keeps them guessing. He scored more than last season partly because he was in good positions to shoot.
Now you can say that he was always like that but that during last season he had more defensive duties or had to share them with Adli and a post-injury Bennacer who weren’t defensive marvels, whereas this season, Fofana allowed him to focus almost exclusively on the offensive duties and even Morata drops very deep to tackle.

  1. Back when he played the first friendly match in USA, i already said he’s gonna be the best midfielder for Milan.
He was the only one from midfield who can drive the ball forward effortlessly and finished with thru passes or shots on goal.
His first season he was a mix bag, as almost every milan player that season.
But now with Fofana beside him, he can show his best!

  2. He was very good last season, good ability on the ball, good dribler, worked very hard just struggled with finishing.
He has really blasted off now. I don’t think we can expect him to play at this level every 3 days tho.

I love watching him and he forms a great trident behind Morata, with Leao and Pulisic, that is quality.

Please can we get a good midfielder like Ricci, and hopefully Benny can come back strong, what an addition that would be.
    Do that in January.
Get a striker and RB in summer, then we are f4cking ready

We just need to complete the team. For years now we have always needed this and that position filled, let’s go before the big guns leave
