Tijjani Reijnders has undoubtedly been one of the best players in Serie A in 2024-25, and it was recognised by the league on Saturday night.
Before the 2-0 win against Monza, Reijnders was presented with the Lega Serie A Team of the Season award, crowning him as the best midfielder in the league. The Dutch midfielder racked up 15 goals and six assists, after getting four of each in 50 games last season.

He scored his 10 goals in the league from 7.5 xG, showing that he was ruthless in front of goal. In total, the former AZ Alkmaar man had 77 shot attempts and 28 shots on target. He had 111 progressive carries in Serie A, as well as 230 progressive passes.
Reijnders completed 99 long passes out of 141 attempts, a 70.2% completion rate. His completion rates on short (91.2%) and medium (91.6%) passes were also immaculate.
The 26-year-old had 117 Shot-Creating Actions in the league, 3.37 per game on average. On the defensive end, he had 26 tackles (13 won), 22 blocks, 38 interceptions and 28 clearances.
His performances have not gone unnoticed and the rumours of interest from Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid are perhaps not surprising, given their need to replace Kevin De Bruyne.

Passing should be higher on his Fifa card, maybe 97. But defending 89 lol 🤭
We can sell Musah (15m) Emerson(10m) Chukwueze (13m), Theo (15-20m if he can leave) there are also Kalulu(14m +3m if qualify to CL), Okafor(15m) and Pobega (10m if they qualify to Europe). This is together around 95m€ for players what we want to sell…Then there is also Saelemakers (20m), also discussion about Tomori (25m) and Thiaw (30m) and we can be definitely happy with all this money and buy quality players…we don’t need to sell Raijnders and I hope Furlani really know it …
Where are the nagging boys they can check his defensive side
Not gonna nag but this has to be the dum.ba$$ take of the year. I swear the world today is full of people that can’t think on their own, don’t know math or don’t use basic logic. Or all of the above. So you just read Tijj’s defensive stats on gross numbers about his defence in the article and gathered they are great stats because it’s in an article?? Where’s the context to these numbers? How about use some basic investigative skills and see how he compares among his peers. Mostly all of the numbers in the article don’t say whether or not it’s good. And u just gobbled it up as if it was. He has 23 tackles..ok,.is that good or bad?….as a midfielder that’s about half a tackle per game for the season. That’s doesnt sound too sharp does it? Especially as a pivot. Fofana has twice that. Tijji has won only 13 of them…once more…in an entire season… that doesn’t seem good either, just from a basic rule of thumb.
Before I go on, I’ll save you the trouble and embarrassment. Just go to Fbref. It shows reports where you can compare his stats where he ranks against other midfielders and it will show you he’s has some of the worst defensive stats in the entire Europe in top 5 leagues among mids. For instance, his tackles are in the 1 percentile amongst mids, meaning 99% of midfielders across Europe are better at making more tackles than him. So while you are going “yippy” because you’ve read he made 23 tackles in a season just know that the figure is atrocious.
Mostly any defensive stats he’s bad at, he’s in the bottom (worst) 10% or lower in the following as a mid: tackles, tackles won, dribblers challenged, dribblers tackles, aerial duels won, aerial duels lost, interceptions, passes blocked, shots blocked, overall blocks, clearances…. you get the picture now don’t you?
Next time think before you write instead thinking you onto something because “you read it somewhere”. Dont let media manipulate you bro.
If that is the case, they will sell fringe players and acquire Serie B players.
Without UCL, this team will be pressured to reduce their budget for next season. They need to sell their stars to cut the wage bill and fund transfers, but selling fringe players will be very difficult, especially with the transfer values you mentioned earlier.
Furlani can’t wait to sell this guy to M.City.
The best midfielder in Serie A playing for the top half team with the worst midfield in Serie A…
