CM: Reijnders ‘bewitches’ the Bernabeu – renewal crucial after Real Madrid audition

Tijjani Reijnders provided yet another high-level performance last night against Real Madrid, with many naming him their man of the match.

Calciomercato.com speak of a ‘magical night’ against Real Madrid for Reijnders, with a performance that ‘bewitched and silenced’ the entire Santiago Bernabeu. Beyond scoring the goal that made it 3-1, he caught the eye with his dribbling and distribution, and not for the first time.

In the defensive phase he had two duels won, one tackle and one block, but in possession is where he is more impressive. The Dutchman completed 98% of his passes (52 out of 53) of which seven were long, 33 medium and only 13 short.

Looking more at where Reijnders sent his passes it becomes clear that he was a true regista, dishing out practically the same number of balls to almost all his team-mates (five on average) aside from Rafael Leao, who he passed to 11 times.

This orchestrated show was not an isolated case and the feeling is that there are more and more clubs interested in Reijnders. In Spain there are those who think he could replace Toni Kroos at Real Madrid, and the performance at the Bernabeu will fuel them. As for Milan, a renewal is in the pipeline.

    1. He showcased himself to the world last night. You think clubs will have a hard time posting him more than 1.7mil a season to tempt him???

Milan needs to renew at 4mil and slap a clause on him.

      1. I have just read on Liverpool sites that Milan are considering a swap for Chiesa to Milan in exchange for Reinders to Liverpool. This is madness when Reinders is on fire with scoring in every game at least these past 3 games and on the world stage.
As much as I love Chiesa and would not mind him joining Milan, it cannot be at the price of losing a player that is in form like Reinders.

        1. The Liverpool sites are always full of speculation about player transfers.
99% of them never turn out to be anything.
Liverpool have loosened up the purse strings a bit in order to hang on to some of their stars, like Mo Salah, but in terms of paying for transfers, they are still very much a Moneyball club, albeit at much higher levels than Milan, and they are not like Man United, constantly overpaying for overrated players that don’t prove out.

FYI, Liverpool FC are owned by John Henry and his Fenway Sports Group, the heart of which is the Boston Red Sox baseball club.
If you’ve ever seen the movie “Moneyball”, about Billy Beane, one of the pioneers of the sabremetrics scouting methods that came to be known as “moneyball”, you would know that after the success of the Oakland A’s, the Boston Red Sox tried to hire Billy Beane for their club in 2002, shortly after John Henry had acquired the Red Sox.
Billy Beane declined and stayed at the A’s, and so the Red Sox ended up hiring another sabremetrics expert to start up their program.
The Red Sox moneyball program bore fruit two years later, in 2004, as the Red Sox finally won the World Series for the first time in 86 years (1918), breaking the Curse of the Bambino (the Curse being due to the original Red Sox owner, Harry Frazee, selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1920 for $100,000, in order to finance his other business, which was producing Broadway theatrical plays – “No, No Nanette” was supposedly the play that came out of the Babe Ruth sale).

  1. RMD are interested – Quelle surprise! Until the Haarlem Globetrotters bench Mbappe they will continue to struggle – their game is not made for him. He’s not a team player and will likely end up in Saudi, who may or may not pay his ridiculous wages…

  2. And some individuals said that bench players like Frattesi, Bennacer and Loftus Cheek are actually better players than Reijnders.
    Funny times.

    1. He is clearly improving his game and that’s more than what you can say About many other players here. No reason not to be excited.

      1. He’s certainly scoring and it’s a good sign that he has improved from last season…which is great because he’s in his prime years. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. This is one of if not the only game I’ve seen him player very well in Europe. But kudos anyway

        1. I find that using a three man midfield like we did last night with Musah also in the middle, showcases Reijnders skill so much more, because there is that coverage in defense behind him.

I don’t know man, to each his own, it to me Reijnders has been tremendous and not just in the Derby and last night.

          1. Musah’s movements caused havoc for Real and I’m no Musah-lover as ppl like to label folks around here lol 😅. I think it’s an underrated aspect of our victory. The way he manoeuvred was excellent. It caught Real badly off and no one knew how or if to pick him up. That in itself actually freed up Deer boy. I’m not fully convinced of Deers so we’ll have to agree to disagree there FOR NOW. I think I can see what u guys are seeing but he doesn’t play like this every game and that my issue. It’s only in fits and spurts. When he does what he did vs Real (moreso command the game and take the scruff of the neck so to speak) Ona regular basis then I’ll be firmly in the lover column.

  3. This was definetly his best game with us, he did everything correctly and he’s done it against a high caliber opponent.
Let’s just hope we don’t have to wait until the next blue moon till we see somehing similar from him.

  4. Reijnders has always been sublime. Now he’s actually growing into a complete midfielder. Renew the man, give him the 4mil a year and hope to keep him for another 3-4 years.

I legit started crying when he scored the third goal last night.

  5. He’s playing at the level he does for the Netherlands now that he has the freedom in midfield. He does the JOB. That’s why Barcelona wanted him

    1. Yes now I see Liverpool wants him in exchange for Chiesa to go to Milan.
This is being published on Liverpool site but not seeing anything on Milan sites so I hope this is purely speculation

    2. He got hooked at halftime in his last game for the Netherlands but sempre posted no articles on that because it wouldn’t fit the narrative that he’s the second coming
