Tijjani Reijnders has admitted that he has an ‘intense summer’ after his post-season vacation, given all of the speculation surrounding his future.
Reijnders has been among the most impressive players for Milan in the three Serie A games this season, getting his first assist for the club 11 minutes into his league debut by setting up Olivier Giroud to make it 1-0.
He and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been playing as the box-to-box duo either side of Rade Krunic in a deeper-lying role, and the new-look midfield trident has certainly helped fans forget about the sale of Sandro Tonali and the injury sustained by Ismael Bennacer.
Reijnders spoke to the official Oranje media channels after meeting up with his national team, speaking about his move to Milan and his attempts to follow in the footsteps of Dutch greats in the red and black.
How was the summer for you?
“It was an intense summer after the holidays. In the end I managed to move to Milan, where I play with great pleasure.”
How have your first few weeks at Milan been?
“Obviously the impressions are all new, but you can’t complain about Italian culture. Playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world is an honour.”
Milan have a history with Dutch players…
“I read that I am the thirteenth AC Milan player as a Dutchman, so there are many connections between AC Milan and the Orange. It’s very nice and it also makes me very proud that as a Dutchman I play at AC Milan.”
Marco van Basten and Ruud Gullit became Ballon d’Or winners at Milan…
“Yes, it’s true, those are the icons of the club and, if you are in the gym, you can also see Marco van Basten and Ruud Gullit’s Ballon d’Ors.”
I hope he choose Indonesian National Team. With Audero. Lol
