Reijnders believes Milan can achieve domestic and European glory this season

By Oliver Fisher -

Tijjani Reijnders has once again stressed how honoured and happy he is to be an AC Milan player, insisting that the current group can win trophies this season.

Reijnders started again for the Netherlands last night as they took a big step towards securing their place in the 2024 European Championships courtesy of a late penalty to win against Greece.

He spoke to SportMediaset after the game, with his comments relayed by MilanNews, beginning with a reflection on what was a hard fought three points against a resilient opponent.

“It was an important match, they defended well, but in the end we brought home the three points and this is the most important thing,” he said.

“We want to qualify for the next European Championship. We are in a good position.”

Reijnders has settled in well after his move to Milan from AZ Alkmaar in the summer, quickly becoming one of the players that Stefano Pioli relies upon the most, and he spoke about his move to the Rossoneri.

“I felt good straight away. I’m very happy to play for Milan. We are a team with a lot of quality. What we want is to win the scudetto. We are in a good moment. Now we have three difficult matches, but I am confident that we can win them.

“Can we win the Champions League? We are an excellent team, we can win both the Scudetto and the Champions League.”

The only red mark on Milan’s record at the moment is the 5-1 derby defeat against Inter last month, and the response since then has been excellent with just one goal conceded across six games.

“It’s bad to lose 5-1, but we had a good reaction in the following games and now we’re at the top.”
