Reijnders admits to Premier League ‘dream’ and confirms Milan-Man City talks

Tijjani Reijnders has confirmed ongoing negotiations between AC Milan and Manchester City over a move, claiming he always dreamed of playing in the Premier League.

The 2024-25 season was disastrous for Milan but a very positive one for Reijnders, who was arguably the Rossoneri’s best performer. He scored 15 goals across all competitions and was crowned by Lega Serie A as the best midfielder.

However, it appears that the Dutchman has already on the verge of leaving Milan, because Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign him, as per multiple reports on Wednesday morning.

Reijnders responds

Reijnders is currently away with the Dutch national team and while with the training retreat he spoke to Voetbal International about the rumours linking him with Manchester City.

“I haven’t received a call yet. The clubs are still negotiating. I haven’t had much of an impact myself. I can’t say more about it, because I don’t know more about it either. I might know a little bit before you do, but for me it’s a matter of waiting and seeing. The Premier League? It’s a fantastic league, you dream about it when you’re a kid.” he said (via MilanPress).

“Personally, I had a very good year, where I was important with goals and assists. But as a team we had a difficult period. It was tough, but luckily I had a lot of support from the fans. I’m also having a lot of fun at Milan, it’s a great club and I wear the shirt with pride.”

As a reminder, Sky are reporting that the figure will be around €70m including bonuses, while The Athletic stated it will be €55m plus bonuses. More specifics about the structure of the deal will likely emerge in the coming days.

  1. When he extended people said that Reijnders was a true milanista unlike Tonali. That Reijnders would’ve refused a move to Manchester City.

And here he’s speaking about City and PL dream while he’s still a Milan player.

    1. Common Ted, it’s that old mental sickness taking hold of all the NEW “fans” at Milan.

Sickness been pile on hatred for the old players who actually love the club and contributed to it coming back up and twist their words and scenarios to make them devils, not the Diavolo type kind you. While praising the new shiny toys that have done nothing of note, and signaling to them true “milanistas” 😁😊🙃

In this scenario though it’s management who are forcing reinjders out, not he who wants to leave unlike Tonali. And remember Tonali was a mediocre, average, bench only, substitute at best. And reinjders a world class beater.

    2. I don’t understand the reason for him to say this, he could just said it was the club’s decision and moved on, still helps me deal with his departure, I would not want a player at Milan who did not want to be there

  2. Latest news Pulisic told his agent he wants to leave too. Smart guy, who wants to stick to a club that sells all of it’s important players and has zero ambitions.

  3. He already sets his heart on City even before the last game. You saw how he was walking round the stadium after the final whistle of the last game of the season. When Furlani said we don’t need to sell, he meant that if any player wants to stay when offer comes, the club would reject it. But here he already agreed terms long before the clubs agreed on transfer fee. Trust Milan fans and emotions, they’ll last the management. Well PSG had to sell their best player to build a formidable team. Barca let go of many stars to build dominance with Pep. I don’t care who leaves as long as they do what the coach wants. Forza Milan ❤️🖤

  4. Players are always fulfilling their “dreams” when they’re making their next move. Reijnders “dreamed” of moving to Milan, now he’s “dreaming” about City and the PL. In a few years it will be a “dream” move to Al-something, and then another “dream” move to MLS. Talk is cheap, and take it all with a grain of salt.

  5. Even our beloved kaka spoke well and praise Real Madrid when he was sold to them. One is business another is wish.

Locatelli came thru Milan academy and we gave him all he has today but he is a die hard Juventus fans . Even thou he scores his debut goal against them.

  6. We cannot hate this guy, remember he’s a profesional. We must look at his POV. Every player dreaming UCL trophy, something that we cannot afford or hard to compete in the next 3-4 years. He’s aleady 27 years old next month, at his peak, and City is the club who can compete in every thropy available.

  7. Loser management, loser mentality, and loser strategy. I don’t see ManU selling any of their top players, and they’re farther away from champions league than we are. The only excuse imaginable for such a move is Allegri decided he doesn’t fit his plans, which I doubt.

  8. “I haven’t had much of an impact myself. I can’t say more about it, because I don’t know more about it either.”

According to Reijnders’ words, he doesn’t have a lot of say in this transfer, meaning it was the management who opened the possibility of selling, and of course a club with a clear ambition like City (not Milan obviously) will swoop in, and Reijnders being a normal human being like all of us would have a difficult time saying no when he’s being promised triple of his current salary and bigger chance to win trophies. I just wished that our management was smarter to demand higher transfer fee considering Reijnders still have a contract until 2030, but again we should’ve known better now not to put high hopes on this management.

    1. “he doesn’t have a lot of say in this transfer”

LOL. He has agreed to the terms with Man City ages ago. Without his consent, they clubs wouldn’t be negotiating.

      1. If Tijj doesn’t have a lot to say in this transfer, why isn’t Theo already in Al-Hilal? Why would he have something to say when Tijj wouldn’t?
