Reijnders recalls ‘great emotion’ of scoring at San Siro and insists: “The season isn’t over”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders was delighted to get his first goal for the club at San Siro, while he stressed that the season is far from being a write-off.

Reijnders got the scoring underway during the 3-0 victory over Monza today, and it came after an excellent run where he dribbled past multiple opponents before stabbing the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs, and that came inside the opening few minutes.

Jan-Carlo Simic got his first ever senior goal for Milan before half-time as he buried a brilliant low cross from Rafael Leao, and then in the second half Noah Okafor swept in a third goal to put the game to bed.

It was a nice follow-up to the victory against Newcastle United in midweek and helps reduce the gap to Juventus down to five points, while waiting for Inter to play Lazio later this evening.

Reijnders was interviewed by Sky Italia after the win against Monza this afternoon, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

You finally scored at San Siro!

“It’s an honour for me to play here at San Siro, I’m happy.”

It was a big win for the team…

“We lost against Atalanta but today we managed to restart and move forward.”

Do you believe that Milan can still win the Scudetto?

“Of course, the season isn’t over. We are here to move forward.”

Can you win the Europa League?

“We have a lot of quality, I know the Europa League and we have to think positive.”

Reijnders also spoke to DAZN after full-time with his comments again relayed by MilanNews.

Your first San Siro goal…

“Yes, it was nice. I’m very happy to have scored in front of the Curva Sud, a great emotion.”

Are Milan more relaxed compared to the Champions League?

“No, it has nothing to do with the Champions League or the league, we must always continue to push and always stay together.”

What was your role in midfield today?

“There was a lot of space in midfield and the coach told me and Ruben to stay on the same line and close the passing lines. Now let’s think about the next one.”

A rating for your goal?

“I think it’s an 8.”

  1. “This season isn’t over”

Agreed with you Reijnders and great mentality too.

Juve got draw 1-1 against Genoa so we only 5 points behind them. So let’s see if Lazio can hold Inter down.

        1. I want to believe that, but everything is working out for Inter. Their players are on a very good form + their injuries are also moderate.
Now only Bologna and Sassuolo can save us.

          1. Like i said, everything can still happen. If Inter draw 3 times and lost 1 while in the same time Milan won 4 times, their points will be same.

And form and injury can be change. Inter players are not robots, they’re human who can still make mistakes and got injured.

      1. Speaking with heart, the season isn’t over yet. But logically speaking, it’s hard to see Inter would slip again this season. They’ve built the same foundation for almost 4 years now. Just see the goals difference between us and Inter, it should be as clear as day.

  2. Yes fully agreed season is not over ,and I really do think the best is to come from us ..Reijnders a much better game from him ,,and he is now looking the part .can only see him getting better..Well done Olivier Giroud again worked very hard indeed ,,and one many duels in the air ,,,and provided a great assist for okafor..great goal from him ,,and yes he is also looking good ,just hope injury to him is not serious.
A little disappointed with Loftus cheek ..Rafeo Leo looked good ,,for most of the match ,,and indeed created a couple of really good chances ..
Pulisic another good game from him ,covered every blade of grass ,,so much energy ,,,but he looked tired towards the end of the game as did Olivier Giroud.
Big Mike what a goalie ,,what a superb save he made .
Flornzie what can I say another great performance from him ..Theo Hernandez another good performance from him ..Tomori another steady game from him .
So things are looking very good for us ,,,with youngsters coming on ,and giving good performances.
Well done pioli ..I have never lost confidence in him and our team…It’s AC Milan for me !

  3. The season isn’t over in the sense that we have to finish Top4 DESPITE Europa League. A lot left to fight for.

The Scudetto is long gone though and honestly, Inter fully deserve it. Marotta put together a hell of a team that’s valued roughly the same as ours, but with so much more quality and depth. Inter looks unstoppable.

I just hope we can get back on course, regroup and play as a team again. NUFC and mona wins were steps in the right direction.

    1. No the season isn’t over in the sense anything can still happen. Too quick to give up when we have 22 more matches to play.
