Reijnders reflects after first goal and explains why Milan had ‘less energy’

By Oliver Fisher -

Tijjani Reijnders was delighted to finally get his first goal as an AC Milan player, but like the whole squad he was left with a sour taste following the results.

Milan were in the driving seat at half-time having taken a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Reijnders. They even missed chances to put the game to bed, just like against Napoli, and it would bite them on the backside again.

Lecce scored twice inside three minutes to earn themselves a point. The first was a corner that was poorly defended and Nicola Sansone bundled in at the far post, then Banda’s curling shot levelled it less than three minutes later.

Speaking to DAZN at the end of the game, Reijnders spoke about the goal he scored and the bitter feeling after throwing away more points.

“We were ahead but we did too many things wrong. Lecce had more energy in the final minutes while we had less because we came from the PSG match,” he said (via MN24).

“I’m happy to have scored the first goal with this shirt but today’s goal was to win. Missed chances? I’m working on this. I have to keep a cool head to be more clear-headed and decisive. I’m working and I hope to succeed.”
