Relevo: Milan wanted Sevilla striker in package deal worth €30m – the background

By Isak Möller -

In the final days of the mercato, AC Milan worked very hard on securing a striker. They ended up with Luka Jovic, who arrived on deadline day, but they also carried out negotiations for Mehdi Taremi and Youssef En-Nesyri.

Taremi was the first choice for the No.9 role but Milan failed to reach an agreement with the player’s entourage. According to Relevo, Luka Jovic was not the second choice either as the Rossoneri also pushed for Sevilla’s En-Nesryi.

In fact, Milan wanted to sign the Moroccan on a €5m paid loan with an option to buy at €25m. They were also willing to send Divock Origi in the opposite direction on a loan with an option to buy at €5m, but the Spanish side didn’t want the Belgian and asked for €30m for their striker.

That’s when the Rossoneri turned to Jovic instead, who arrived on a free transfer from Fiorentina. The 25-year-old is yet to make a training session with his new club as he’s currently on international duty with Serbia, but soon we will see him at Milanello.
