Renato Sanches explains picking PSG over Milan: “I am sure I have made the right choice”

By Oliver Fisher -

Renato Sanches was announced a little while ago as a new signing for Paris Saint-Germain, and he has given some information about why he chose them over AC Milan.

As MilanNews have reported among other sources, there are several factors that meant Milan were always up against it in their pursuit of Renato Sanches. Firstly, the player made it clear that he wanted Paris Saint-Germain as soon as they expressed an interest in signing him, given Christophe Galtier and Luis Campos are there.

It was immediately clear that Sanches was even willing to wait for PSG to thin out the squad so they could sign him too, as he would not only find familiar faces there but he would also get a better salary and the chance to fight to win the Champions League immediately.

The Portuguese midfielder gave his first interview to the official channel of PSG and he spoke about why he only had his heart set on joining the Ligue 1 champions once he learned of their interest.

“I am very happy to be in Paris. These last few days have been very important for me and for my family. I am sure I have made the right choice. I chose Paris Saint-Germain because I think it’s the best project for me. Staying in France is important, because I already know this league,” he said (via MilanNews).

Christophe Galtier coach you at Lille. Did this affect your decision?

“I know him well. He is a good coach, who made me grow a lot when I arrived in Ligue 1. Together we also managed to win the league with Lille. We did a good job together and I am happy to work with him again, as well as with his staff members. Working with a coach you know always makes things easier. Communication is easier.”

There are several Portuguese players at PSG. Did this influence your decision?

“Not much! I think my decision would have been the same and I think it is the right choice. I am obviously happy to find compatriots, this can facilitate my integration. I already know Nuno Mendes and Danilo Pereira but not Vitinha yet. I spoke with Nuno before my signing, he spoke highly of Paris Saint-Germain to me.”

What can we wish you for next season?

“I hope to help the club and give it all! I think we will have a good season.”

  1. Hey, I don’t blame him.
How many of us would refuse 6 mil a year salary and go for almost half that at 3.2 mil?
Considering how Injury prone he is this might be his time to get his pay day.
I would have loved him at Milan because he is an incredible talent, but his injury history and that salary was way too much.
Good luck to him and i hope he stays healthy

  2. Would have been nice to him I won’t lie, but we can’t win all our negotiations…
Other teams have lost to us as well so it’s part of the game.
I think we can all agree that M&M are trustworthy and can manoeuvre are puns this

  3. Honestly, I’m not too worry Milan didn’t get him. In my opinion, he is too attacking minded, while at the moment w
Milan need Defensive Midfielder to replace Kessie.

  4. I don’t mind him choosed PSG than Milan. He will be insignificant even came to Milan. For this season, the additional force in Adli and CDK will be more than enough while getting another RW or DMF is bonus.

    1. Yea I never got why there were articles about him. Maldini clearly said in an interview too that they were looking at other profiles than him and Botman. All the rest was fluff and articles for clicks but I did get amusement watching these commentors go crazy for someone I knew wasnt coming. We were never in that race

  5. When i said he got 6m euro nett in mbappe fc . Some stupid fans here still insist AC Milan can get this guy as new signing. From the beginning we cannot compete salary with mbappe fc , why bother defend this guy . I dont blame this guy choose money but i dont understand some stupid fans here thinking he is the best midfield that can replace kessie . Lols
