Tijjani Reijnders of AC Milan

Tuttosport: Man City and the UCL factor – why a renewal alone is not enough to secure Reijnders

The negotiations for the renewal of Tijjani Reijnders with AC Milan are well underway, but it might not be enough to see him stay beyond this season.

As Tuttosport report, the signs are good regarding Reijnders extending his contract. The Dutch midfielder has become a real leader of Paulo Fonseca’s team and recently has scored goals at the rate of a top striker.

On Monday evening he spoke live on Ziggo Sport, declaring: “I haven’t signed yet, it still has to happen, but it seems like a good thing. It’s a nice reward that Milan wants to give me, extending the contract after a year doesn’t happen often. It’s a great club to play for».”

It is music to Milan’s ears, and the directors know that he is worth at least triple the €20m paid one year ago, when they signed him from AZ Alkmaar beating the competition of several European clubs, including Barcelona.

Now the aim is to armour him with a new deal and a pay rise, especially given that Manchester City are interested. What could be key is if the Rossoneri manage to qualify for the next edition of the Champions League.

Participation in the top European competition is often a basic condition for all the star names and not qualifying – in addition to the economic damage that it would cause given the loss in revenues – could force reflections from all involved.

    1. Give him that release clause, and Man City will definitely trigger it. His valuer right now is around 65M.
Maybe if the clause were 200M.

  1. He would do splendidly in pass and technical skill-heavy teams. Like City (pep, if he stays), Barca and Arsenal. If we’re not going to have any ambition and going to sell him then at least make sure he goes for big money

        1. Lol. Nelli might be implying that he’ll walk on a free, which given our track record is also a very possible outcome!

  2. He and Fofafa can surely be the anchors for Milan, it shouldn’t always be selling for profit, it should be for rewards for the capable and deserving, like the good old days

    1. Always selling for profit!?!
Milan literally sold 1 player for profit, and we still don’t know if he asked to leave to run away from his problems or the club wanted to sell him. But based on how the club hasn’t sold anyone else, the former is more realistic than the latter.

  3. This is the net result when the ownership has no ambition to win anything….good players want to win trophies, not tell their grand children how the club has a healthy bank balance….

  4. Hope we secure his signature and our ownership realizes you pay top performers that are good in the dressing room and Reijnders fits the bill.

  5. Why are you so scared of a rumour? He has 2 years left on his contract and has stated he is happy in Milan.

Why people turn on players and want to sell them as Quick as a article like this appears?

Why are you so insecure, we lost no good players with the new management?

    Man up you wimps.

    Forza Milan ❤🖤❤🖤

    1. Didn’t Kessie say the same while stating not to worry as he will surely extend? Or Donnarumma? Hakan?

As someone already implied in this comment section, players want to tell stories of winning trophies not about healthy balance sheets their club had. Let’s see where Reijnders falls in.
