Report: Aston Villa face competition from Spain for Reina – why Milan can smile

By Isak Möller -

Milan are expected to part ways with several players ahead of next season, starting with those one expiring contracts (bar Zlatan Ibrahimovic). Pepe Reina has one year left but is set to leave anyway, a report claims.

The Rossoneri are keen on parting ways with the Spanish goalkeeper, who earns €3.5m per year. Of course, that is too much to pay for a back-up goalkeeper. According to Alessandro Jacobone on Twitter, at least two clubs are interested.

In fact, a Spanish club has made a contract offer for the 37-year-old, although the name of the club is yet to be revealed. Furthermore, Aston Villa want to keep him for next season, pleased with how the six-month loan turned out.

Regardless of what his next destination will be, Reina’s days at Milan are seemingly over. This also means that the Rossoneri need to find a new back-up goalkeeper, as Asmir Begovic will return to Bournemouth as per the loan agreement.
