Report: Competition outlined as Milan eye free transfer of Dortmund man

As Ralf Rangnick is in pole position to replace Stefano Pioli on the AC Milan bench, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some signings from Bundesliga this summer. Certainly, the rumours aren’t lacking on this front.

According to today’s edition of Il Messaggero (via MilanNews.it), the Rossoneri have set their sights on Mario Götze. The midfielder’s contract with Borussia Dortmund will expire in the summer, meaning he will be available on a free transfer.

However, as the newspaper continues, Milan aren’t the only ones interested. Roma have been keeping tabs on the 27-year-old for quite some time, and now their city rivals Lazio have also joined the race.

The Rossoneri are expected to focus a lot on youth in their new project, especially if Ralf Rangnick arrives. Either way, it remains to be seen how many exceptions they will make, with regards to signing a few more experienced players.
