Report highlights AC Milan’s plan to beat Arsenal to signing of €50m French starlet

AC Milan believe that they can win the race to land RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano because of two key factors, a report claims.

The Rossoneri continue to be linked with a move for the France U21 international just as they have been in the summer and a report on MilanLive – who cite Calciomercato.com – confirms their interest.

Not only that, but the outlet suggests that a plan has already been drawn up by those in charge at Casa Milan, where they will look to exploit Upamecano’s current contract situation as his deal expires in June 2021.

Without a renewal before the summer, the German club will be forced to sell the 21-year-old to the highest bidder. Milan are ready to raise the stakes on his salary by offering €3million net per year.

Another card to use could be Ralf Rangnick. The German head coach was the one who discovered Upamecano (he took him to Salzburg when he was very young) and could convince him to accept the Diavolo’s proposal, if he takes the reigns at Milan.

Even Ivan Gazidis is very attracted to this possible incoming operation. Upamecano fits the profile of the project perfectly: young, forward-looking, not overly expensive in terms of price tag and annual salary.

However, Upamecano continues to be heavily linked with Arsenal by the English media, and the report mentions a potential €50m valuation despite his aforementioned contract situation.
