Report: Maldini ‘totally against’ ESL concept and opposes stance of Milan CEO Gazidis

By Isak Möller -

The European Super League didn’t last for long as England’s big six all dropped out of the project, and several other clubs followed. Milan, on the other hand, haven’t left the competition yet, though admitting initial defeat.

In one of our latest features, we discussed the Rossoneri’s poor way of dealing with the situation as the fans haven’t received a proper explanation. And the same goes for technical director Paolo Maldini, who revealed he didn’t know anything.

The reliable journalists Fabrizio Romano and Leah Smith, in a piece for Benchwarmers, confirmed that Milan are still considered part of the ESL. CEO Ivan Gazidis has been involved in the project for years and believes it’s the right way to go.

The Rossoneri were one of the most convinced clubs involved and are hoping that the ESL can be remodelled and put in practice in the future, per the report. Meanwhile, the stance of Maldini is completely different, as he is ‘totally against’ the project.

Maldini’s relationship with Gazidis has never been that great and it seems it’s not getting any better, which is understandable since the CEO keeps going behind his back.
