Report: Milan battling Bayern, Man Utd and two other English giants for €60m Frenchman

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are one of the teams in the running to land RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano in the summer transfer window, a report claims.

We reported via our mercato correspondent Vito Angele earlier in the month that Rangnick is keeping a close eye on Upamecano. The RB Leipzig defender’s contract will expire in 2021 and should he fail to reach a renewal agreement with the German side, Milan could get him at a good price.

According to German publication Waldeckische Landeszeitung, Milan are joined by Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal in pursuit of the Frenchman, who has a €60m release clause built into his current deal.

Bayern’s interest is the focus of the article, which states that their honorary president Uli Hoeneß is considered a fan of Upamecano in particular, with the 21-year-old viewed as an ideal replacement for Jerome Boateng. In the Allianz Arena , just before the report, the 68-year-old had witnessed how Upamecano Bundesliga super striker Robert Lewandowski had left the game.

Upamecano wants to take his time in making his decision while Leipzig are open to selling if they cannot agree a renewal, so as to avoid the risk of losing him for free.
