AC Milan have decided to reopen the famous Milan Lab that was established in 2002 but vanished from the media’s attention in recent years due to a lack of success.
Milan were a pioneer in the field of sports medicine during the 2000s. The now world-famous Milan Lab extended the career of many players well into the 40’s and helped Milan to a lot of silverware with its innovative methods, but suffered a decline as we detailed in our feature.
According to MilanPress, Milan Lab is back and will be the ‘highly technological interdisciplinary research centre’. The historic structure – founded in 2002 under the management of the then-CEO Adriano Galliani – will be entrusted to the head of the medical sector Stefano Mazzoni.
It will have a more scientific vocation and will be used for the study of performance of all age groups from the first team to the Under 14s. Dr. Mazzoni will co-ordinate a team of about fifteen people, 12 of whom will be dedicated to the Lab at Milanello itself.
Andrea Riboli will join the team, a 36-year-old with a PhD in Sports Sciences and former collaborator with Atalanta. He will work on the development of high performance, boasting specific research on elite footballers and fatigue.
