Report: Milan, Lazio and PSG watch closely as Papu Gomez gives ultimatum to Atalanta

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are one of the teams that could make a sensational swoop to land Papu Gomez from rivals Atalanta, a report claims.

According to what is being reported by L’Eco di Bergamo (via Calciomercato.it), Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has placed an ultimatum on the leadership of the Bergamo club: they will have to choose between him and Gomez in January.

They could choose to side with the coach given the remarkable job he has done since arriving in Lombardy, which therefore means the Argentine forward leaves, and a number of clubs are attentive to developments.

He could be tempting to many clubs even if in February he will turn 33, as in recent years he has shown that he is one of the players able to make the most difference in Serie A, as he has 59 goals and 71 assists for Atalanta across 250 appearances (all competitions).

The report adds that Milan and Lazio are watching the evolution of the situation, as both clubs have had problems with their playmakers and could replace them. The Rossoneri are struggling to renew Hakan Calhanoglu, and the capital club are the same with Luis Alberto.

Papu Gomez has a net salary of €2m net per season in Bergamo, a significant but not out-of-rach figure for the two aforementioned clubs. The transfer fee would likely be €10m or less given his age.

Attention must be paid to foreign clubs though, especially PSG, while clubs in Qatar and China could present very tempting contracts.
