Report: Milan negotiating over renewal of star defender and are willing to offer €3.5m/yr

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are currently in talks with Theo Hernandez and his entourage over the extension of his contract, a journalist has claimed.

According to the latest from Nicolo Schira, one of the management’s priorities in the next few months is to renew the contract of the Frenchman, which doesn’t actually expire until 2024 but an extension until 2026 and a pay rise as a reward for his performances is planned.

His contract at the moment has him earning €1.5m net per season and the Rossoneri are willing to raise his salary to €3.5m in an attempt to secure the 24-year-old’s long-term future. Talks are ongoing to try to reach an agreement, Schira adds.

After the Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu exits plus the saga currently surrounding Franck Kessie, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara appear to have opted for a more proactive approach so as to avoid difficult negotiating positions, and Saelemaekers’ recent renewal is perhaps a sign of this.

  1. Lol. 3.5? That’s it. Need to be aggressive here. He makes only 1.5. Triple his salary to 4.5 at least and be done with it. Don’t cheap this one out too many other teams want him and will pay – just like Kessie…

    1. You’re the worse negotiator ever lol , you start something low and increase not the highest bid. 🤦🤦 He will most likely ask for more so you have a bit of a margin to work with. Besides I’m sure they’ll include performance based bonuses.
