Report: Milan set to miss out on €40m midfielder as Benfica perform U-turn on stance

By Oliver Fisher -

Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira and coach Bruno Lage have agreed not to sell Florentino Luis this month, according to a report.

Our mercato expert Vito Angele told us this morning that Milan are expecting a response from Benfica regarding Florentino in the next 48 hours, having made an offer of an 18-month loan with option to buy at €40m.

Il Giornale though followed up by stating Milan are in fact closing in on reaching a total agreement with Benfica on the aforementioned basis of a loan until summer 2021 and an option to buy of €40m. They state that the deal should be concluded ‘in the next few hours’.

However, a fresh twist has arrived from Portugal. According to Renascena, the defensive midfielder will stay at Benfica as Bruno Lage will continue to count on Florentino Luis for squad depth.

They add that many scouts of European clubs have observed the performances of the 20-year-old, however in the winter window he will not be allowed to leave, not even in the face of a big offer from the Rossoneri.
