Report: Milan monitoring versatile youngster but €40m price tag represents an obstacle

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are well-known for their willingness to focus on young players and although some experience has been needed, their tactic has paid off. Another youngster in their sights is Charles De Ketelaere.

According to Niccolo Ceccarini, in his latest piece for TMW, Milan have been monitoring the performances of De Ketelaere for quite some now. The 21-year-old currently plays for Club Brugge and has impressed in the Champions League with the club.

He can play as an attacking midfielder, a winger and as a false nine, meaning he’s a very versatile player. This is something that appeals to Milan but the youngster is believed to have a price tag of around €40m, which obviously is an obstacle.

In addition, several big clubs are following his situation including Napoli in Italy. It remains to be seen, therefore, if Milan’s interest will turn into something more concrete. At that price, it’s unlikely.

  1. 40m euro price too much , maybe we can lower the payment using loan with obligation to buy . Loan 5m euro with obligation to buy 25m euro. He is good and versatile

    1. Seems highly unlikely to happen when there are many clubs interested across europe that propably gladly will fork up their cash to make it happen so why would brugge accept your proposal when they propably fairly easy can get more than what you propose ?

Anyways if milan isnt getting belooti i would expect us to get a great talent as ketelaere or a talent of his magnitude, 40 mil might be a high sum for us to pay but in a couple of years he will propably have a value in the vicinity of 100 mil so personally i dont believe that its too much cnsidering the fees paid for lesser talents.

        1. Well saelemaekers renewed his contract Oct 15, 2021 til Jun 30, 2026 so even if some mian fans want us to offload him i can allmost guarantee that it wont happen.Besides of that why would saelemaekers even want to downgrade and why would brugge want to lose out on cash when they clearly has a great chance to get cash for both ketelaere and lang,
Guys this isnt football manager or fifa 22 and transfers are far more complex than just getting this and that player.

      1. Well you don’t know until AC Milan try. Probably Charles can help too by telling brugge to accept AC Milan proposal if he is convinced by Paolo Maldini. Charles has potential to become star, i prefer sign him over noa Lang. Another player we can offload/sell to fund are rebic since he is already 28 and unsatisfied being reserved ( strugle with injury too) ,the other player like caldara,Duarte, castilejo, hauge Will get us small fee to fund some cash for buy charles

        1. ofcourse we doesnt entirely know whats gonna happen and dont get me wrong if they can get a cheap deal all the best to them but if i asked if i could buy your house and loan it for one year paying a small fee and then paying the remaining cash next year and a different potential buyer came forward and offered you more and immediately paying the full price, which offer would you accept ? Might be simplified as a comparison but i already know the answer to that question dont i ? Im not really aware of brugges finances as they might have been struck hard by the pandemic which then could give them the sentiment not to give discounts on their priced assets.
Ketelaere has 2 years left on his contract so i dont see him having any bargaining chip over club brugge so they would most likely be missing out of atleast 10 mil euros to please the player which again seems unlikely to happen.
Anyways i would be a bit surprised if we are even able to land him as there will be many interested parties that can offer better salairies and sign on fees than us but not even as much as i would be to see him joing us for 30mil euros as you suggested.

Im fullly with you That de ketelaere is the most interesting prospect of the two but i wouldnt mind either of them.

          1. Just leave it to Maldini. In my opinion we can do 30m euro cash offer too . But not that 40m euro asking price from brugge. If Charles refused contract extension then his price will be dropped next year.Brugge must sell him in summer and if Maldini can convince Charles to join US then i believe brugge Will accept our bid 30m cash . But downside if we pay cash to brugge ,we don’t have budget for RW and forced us to use junior and saele as RW next season

          2. Yoiu gotta be kidding me as you suggested that we could offer a 5 mil loan and then pay 25mil next summer when there clearly will be interested buyers that will pay them the cash demanded and you say to me that i should just leave the transfers up to maldini ? well thats funny because your suggestion belongs in fantasy land as its nothing but a mere castle in the sky and clearly will not happen on such conditions.

  2. I sincerely hope we will never buy Belotti, as well as sell our captain. They have a lot between them the two: Practically completely useless.

  3. 30M should be enough for De Ketelaere. He is young, but he is big, very skilled and can play CF,AM and even RW.
We cannot afford him this summer though.
