Report: Pioli could battle Conceicao for vacancy – what it means for Milan

Former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli could face competition for a job in the Saudi Pro League from a head coach the Rossoneri were tempted to replace him with during the summer.

When Pioli departed Milan, it seemed that Sergio Conceicao was the in-line replacement until the Diavolo turned to his compatriot Paulo Fonseca, and it seems he could face another Rossoneri-themed battle shortly.

As Falah Sport (via Francesco Nasato on X) reports, Al Nassr are close to sacking their head coach Luis Castro. If this happens, they will be tempted to make a move for the 58-year-old coach, alternatively, they are also looking at the former Porto coach.

Given the Rossoneri are still paying a €7.5 million gross salary to the Italian coach, there will be some eager eyes on the situation from the management, who will be praying that his wages can be taken off the books.

Additionally, considering the current situation with Fonseca, if things do not turn around with the Portuguese coach, then having Pioli off the wage bill would allow a lot more freedom with their decision, and it could make a decision arrive sooner.

Perhaps, Castro’s sacking could start a domino effect for Milan, but other things would have to occur as well.

  1. Get Sergio conciecao in, he’s proven that he can actually win trophy’s and not only that he’s won manager of the year in his respective league a few times

    1. The article is about Al Nassr looking at Conceição. Nobody is talking about Milan hiring Conceição. We could have hired him; we went the cheap Yes-Man route instead.

Conceição is a winner; always made Porto punch higher than its weight. Fonseca is a loser. We went with the mediocre loser. We won’t be getting Conceição. At this point Conceição would have to be crazy to accept Milan, a confused team with no clear winning ambition.

Yes, we had a great pass, but as off now, we’re becoming a mid-table team in the Italian league, miles away from the top teams in the EPL and La Liga.

We have no proper sporting director. No proper scout. We have no owner committed to winning (our owner said that winning is boring). Our CEO undermined one of our best players, saying that he’d personally pack his bags (no wonder said player has been a bit disrespectful; he was the one disrespected to start with). We have a mediocre coach who throws his own players under the bus and scapegoats them. We have “geniuses” that mercato after mercato have failed to properly address the Defensive Midfielder position since Kessié left, have hired no deputy for the Left Back position, have tried to upgrade the Right Back position and managed to hire someone much worse than the incumbent, have hired a huge number of midfielders and still have not managed to get a solid midfield, and have made puzzling moves like getting rid of a decent player like Colombo while keeping a weak player like Jovic, and getting rid of a decent player like Kalulu (who can also play RB) while hiring a horrible player like Emerson.

Who exactly would want to coach Milan right now? Not any top level coach; that’s for sure. Not that our cheap management would like to hire a top level coach anyway.

The funniest thing is that being cheap gets expensive. If we drop out of the CL spots, we lose a lot of money. If the mediocre coach they hired fails, for a new one to be hired Milan would have to have 3 coaches on the payroll: Pioli who is still in the payroll, Fonseca, and Fonseca’s replacement. Instead, we should have offered a decent salary to Motta, before Juve jumped on him.

There are so many things wrong with Milan right now that frankly, if I were a top coach, I’d not accept any offer from Milan.

  2. How about Milan to offer Fonseca to this Saudi team instead of them having difficulty picking between Sergio and Pioli.
The Saudi team should note that the genius Milan management decided that Fonseca is better than Sergio and Pioli so they should trust Cardinale algorithm and his clowns and take Fonseca

  3. I kept reading articles saying Fonseca is an evolved version of Pioli, he has not won anything in a big league i don’t understand that argument at all. We downgraded in manager that’s a fact and are hoping he will do wonders the way Pioli did, its still early but UCL spot could already be compromised unless the team picks up fast

  4. Why don’t the management just get Ivan Juric though. Milan is struggling defensively and Juric is a master of defensive football. It’s not rocket science!

  5. People criticizing Milan fans as if the management brought in Motta and the fans now want him out after three matches. Fonseca is a lateral move from Pioli, definitely not an upgrade.
