Report: Romagnoli remains a concrete option for Lazio in centre-back pursuit

By Isak Möller -

In the last few weeks, Alessio Romagnoli has been linked quite a lot with Lazio as his contract with AC Milan will expire at the end of the season. A move to his boyhood club remains an option, a report claims.

The Milan captain has been at the club since the 2015/16 season and during that time, he has become an important player. With the arrival of Fikayo Tomori and the rise of Pierre Kalulu, however, he has lost his spot as a starter.

Furthermore, the Rossoneri are unwilling to uphold his current €6m-per-year salary, offering around half that for an extension. This has understandably resulted in Romagnoli evaluating his future, with his boyhood club Lazio interested.

According to Il Messaggero (via MilanNews), Luiz Felipe and Patric will both leave Lazio on a free transfer in the summer and they thus need at least one new centre-back. Romagnoli remains a concrete option for them as his salary demands aren’t ridiculous.

Having said that, it’s clear that a move to Lazio would be a step down for Romagnoli and his career, although it could guarantee valuable playing time.

  1. No one on here wants to complain about how the management wont stump up the extra money he wants in wages so we don’t lose him on a free?

    1. No want of course. First we cannot sell him because he lacking suitor club’ ,how much you expect buyer Will buy him and which club’ want to buy him? Second we want to get rid all Raiola client. It is good for both AC Milan and Romagnoli to say farewell, for AC Milan next season they Will have Kjaer,Tomori,Botman,Kalulu as CB spot while Romagnoli presence Will slowing Kalulu growth, For Romagnoli he Will get guaranteed starter in Lazio and Will increase his chance called to world cup next season . Win win solution for both AC Milan and romagnoli

      1. Definitely not a win for Milan. Our management is amazing at finding new talents. But we’ve lost triple digits in value by not properly negotiating contracts on time… however the big win is getting rid of the snake that is Raiola

        1. AC Milan can get rid of his salary 12m gross( 6 m euro nett/ season) . So you want to extend him and sell him ? He Will not have value since he Will become fifth choice of CB below Tomori, botman,Kjaer, kalulu. Selling him is not easy too, remember we need romagnoli agree too for selling Romagnoli. If he refuse all club’ like castilejo did than AC Milan Will loss 6m euro gross salary / season just for fifth choice CB

          1. Nobody said extend and sell now, this negotiation should have taken place a long time ago. We shouldn’t ever get into last year’s of contracts with players unless we are 100% prepared to have them leave for free or their low value.
