Report: Romagnoli remains a concrete option for Lazio in centre-back pursuit

In the last few weeks, Alessio Romagnoli has been linked quite a lot with Lazio as his contract with AC Milan will expire at the end of the season. A move to his boyhood club remains an option, a report claims.

The Milan captain has been at the club since the 2015/16 season and during that time, he has become an important player. With the arrival of Fikayo Tomori and the rise of Pierre Kalulu, however, he has lost his spot as a starter.

Furthermore, the Rossoneri are unwilling to uphold his current €6m-per-year salary, offering around half that for an extension. This has understandably resulted in Romagnoli evaluating his future, with his boyhood club Lazio interested.

According to Il Messaggero (via MilanNews), Luiz Felipe and Patric will both leave Lazio on a free transfer in the summer and they thus need at least one new centre-back. Romagnoli remains a concrete option for them as his salary demands aren’t ridiculous.

Having said that, it’s clear that a move to Lazio would be a step down for Romagnoli and his career, although it could guarantee valuable playing time.
