Report: Solskjaer looks to topple Mourinho as Man Utd join Spurs, Chelsea in €30m striker race

By Oliver Fisher -

Manchester United have joined Chelsea and Spurs in the race to sign AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, according to the latest reports from England.

La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira reported on Sunday that Piatek’s agent has offered the striker to Chelsea as a potential replacement for Olivier Giroud, while transfer source Louis Girardi confirmed that the Stamford Bridge side are in talks over a deal.

Meanwhile, Schira also acknowledged that Spurs are also in the race to land the 24-year-old, confirming that contacts are ongoing between Tottenham and Milan.

It was even claimed by Sport.pl that Jose Mourinho had a video call with the striker yesterday morning, in an attempt to convince him to join the club.

However, there has been yet another twist, as The Independent say Piatek is an option for Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he plots late move to secure cover for the injured Marcus Rashford.

At the moment though United would only want Piatek on loan, a solution which does not work for Milan who want to sell him outright on a permanent basis.
