AC Milan’s search for a new head coach appears to be down to four names with one being the clear first choice, if reports are to be believed.
We reported earlier on Sunday that Giampaolo’s future was in serious jeopardy despite Saturday’s win over Genoa, with the club considering his position.
That was then backed up by a number of reliable sources, with the general consensus being that the former Sampdoria boss has never been more at risk of being sacked.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Luciano Spalletti is the number one choice for Milan to replace him, but Stefano Pioli is an alternative.
Meanwhile Rudi Garcia and Marcelino have been contacted, but talks never proceeded further from there, while Claudio Ranieri and Laurent Blanc are two profiles that were evaluated but never contacted.
Calciomercato.com state that Milan accelerated their pursuit of Spalletti on Sunday evening, stating that the track that leads to the ex-Inter boss is ‘no longer as impossible as it was’.
Garcia has been probed in the past few days, the report continues and he knows Milan sporting director Ricky Massara well from their time at Roma.
Meanwhile, Pioli has also apparently been contacted, while Ranieri remains a background option.
