Reports: Juventus attempt to hijack Popovic deal as Milan refuse to budge

By Oliver Fisher -

The negotiations between AC Milan and Matija Popovic have become complicated, and reports claim that Juventus are trying to hijack the operation.

As Calciomercato.com recall in their latest update, Popovic arrived in Italy yesterday with the aim of signing his contract with Milan. The deal was not agreed but talks continued and now they have become complicated.

The Rossoneri management were negotiating with Popovic’s entourage over a five-year deal that would see him arrive on a free transfer after his deal with Partizan Belgrade expired. They had even beaten the competition from Manchester City, or so it seemed.

There is currently no agreement on the commissions that would go to his agent, and while the teenager remains enthusiastic about joining Milan, the directors are firm on their position and the conditions are not there at present close the deal.

This is why Juventus have entered the race. Their directors Giuntoli and Manna met with Popovic’s representatives, gauging the parameters of the operation before deciding whether they want to continue.

Meanwhile, Goal also confirm that Juventus phoned Popovic’s agents to understand where the situation is with Milan, but also to inquire about the feasibility of a possible move to Turin. An official offer has not yet arrived, and they have a free non-EU spot.

  1. He’s non-EU. What if we want Jonathan David or someone else that’s proven? This guy has been frozen out of his team for six months, shows up randomly with his agents, and then tries to pressure Milan to pay up. He hasn’t played a single senior appearance.

Forget him. There are more red flags here than a Soviet Army parade.

    1. We don’t have money for David plus Guirassy doesn’t want to move in Milano so because we get every transfer period we get non eu spots so … Just Sign Him ASAP and move for ST in the summer where we get another two non eu spots so the management would show incompetent to not sign him right now

      1. What? This guy is NOT proven. Who is to say he’s not another lazetic? What is incompetent about not signing this guy? He hasn’t a single senior appearance. Even if we can’t sign David, we could be in for someone else that’s non-EU.

This is not a signing we should do.

        1. What exactly does he need to prove at the age of 18 ? He wont even be in the first team, he is a big talent for the future, who if develops right we wont be able to afford later on. This reminds me of the time when Chiesa was 19, and i was seeing this same comments from fans. Yea later Milan couldn’t afford Chiesa.

      2. Guirassy has a dual passport as he is born in france, I do agree though that we should get popovic obviously all depending on what his agents are demanding but the serb is considered a huge talent in his birth year in fact so much so that he was recently named in a list of the most promising talents in the world.
Agree David wont come in this transfer window.

          1. He probably would have if he had renewed his contract and its a fact the he in October was named in a list of the most talented players born in 06 regardless whether you like it or not. Does that mean he will become a super star obviously not so its a balance in regard of what the demands are but the fact that city wants him should tell you a thing or two.

          2. He didn’t renew his contract because of unprofessional conduct and he’s being overrated by people on here so they have a reason to bash on management for not giving into the extortion of agents. Also rumors are rumors. It doesn’t mean he’ll end up in a place. Watch him get signed by Juve then loaned to a Serie B team.

          3. You can always question whether he handled that well but you clearly doesn’t know better than football experts and clubs around europe so those musings doesnt really matter. I by the way pretty much never bash those involved with the club but as i said its a balancing act in regard of demands but i can also understand some worries in regard that he and his enturage just turned up on themselves even though it could be seen as a sign of him really wanting to jin us its a bit of a weird move..
