Reports: Morata completes Milan medical – Furlani present for contract signing

By Oliver Fisher -

Alvaro Morata has just completed his medical and he will soon sign his contract to become a new AC Milan player, according to widespread reports.

Things seem to have accelerated as planned after Morata arrived back in Spain with the European Championship trophy, and a number of sources have claimed that he would do a medical today and then tomorrow will leave with his family for a well-deserved vacation.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Morata has just completed his medical and is now set to sign as a new Milan player on a deal until June 2028, after the €13m release clause in his contract with Atleti was triggered by the Rossoneri.

MilanNews also state that Morata’s medical with Milan in Madrid has just ended. Now the Spanish striker will meet with his agents, the intermediary Beppe Bozzo and the Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani to sign his contract.

His arrival in Italy is scheduled for the first week of August when the rest of the team will be returning from their tour of the United States.

Morata’s debut – barring any setbacks – should be in the Trofeo Berlusconi against Monza on Wednesday 13 August, which is just a few days before the Serie A opener at San Siro.

  1. Whether or not he’s a success or failure he’s exactly what we need.

And that makes it more likely he’ll be a success.

If we sign another striker then one of him or the other striker will be a failure.

    1. I disagree. It’s a failure in many ways. This management of “moneyball” and wise targeted investments just splashed 50M€ on a 30+ years old that never was a world class player during his career. I’m not sure they’ll be able to make the holy capital gains on that. Makes no sense considering the current policy.

What we need is what we already needed one, two, three years ago. A solid striker with potential to become a key starter and a world class player. Now they won’t give 5M€ a year to Morata to be a bench player so we have to assume he’ll be the starter for years to come. He’ll be the gem of this mercato, the Mr X! In reality he’s just a cheap opportunity with that release clause and no competition from other clubs to sign him. And he’s not an upgrade over Giroud either. Lowball mercato, again.

      1. I agree wholeheartedly. The goalposts have shifted time after time. Camarda is 16…he may burst onto the scene a la Rooney, Owen or R9, or he may not. What we should have been looking at was someone to come in and make that capital
Gain, someone like a Dobvyk or a David who we could make a profit on and sell in 2,3,4 years when Camarda is the finished article. All of a sudden people are claiming that Morata was the plan all along and that he’s being bright here to mentor Camarda…Camarda already has the perfect mentor here in Zlatan…all of a sudden Morata is being elevated to some sort of striker god when he just started isn’t …

when 6 months ago we were looking for a new striker for the next 5 plus years. I’d love to know how many of those who are now advocating this move, saw Morata as a desirable signing 6 months ago…if told back then that Morata was going to be the next big striker for Milan when names such as Gyokeres, David, Dobvyk and Zirkzee…(who I wasn’t keen on) were Mentioned , would that have got excited, or would they be wishing for someone else? How many looked with envy at Juve and Madrid when they had Morata thinking ‘I wish we had him’

It’s not about whether Morata is or isn’t a good player, he’s a decent journeyman striker, but is he really what we needed? And if so, why were none of those who are now banging on about how great this deal is, putting his name forward 2,3,6 months ago?

      2. Wow. You have no idea what you’re even talking about. Morata is a top tier player. And splash 50 million? They didn’t pay 50 million for him. Every player makes a salary every year.

      3. Whats a failure is your brain because you will complain no matter what happens

if milan win the league ‘ohh its a sh*t league anyway, why are people celebrating’

if milan win copa italia ‘ohh what a bad competition why would anyone want this’

  2. Wish him the best. I think he is replacing Giroud like-for-like. Our squad did not improve, nor it declined. I hope management is thinking why spend big on a young striker if we have Camarda in 2-3 yrs or sooner. If we had gotten a Zirzke, it may have been harder for Camarda to break into our squad and lead the team.
I also hope management is thinking, since we didnt spent 40M transfer fee + 4-5M salary on a big name striker, then we can spend on reinforcing our midfield and defense. But what do i know, it feels sometimes management just winging it.

  3. Top tier player and we still have people complaining. A low transfer fee. And no it isn’t 50 million euros. We aren’t paying his entire salary all in one lump sum.

Some people here… complain complain complain. Meanwhile we get a player that is on the top of his form and came off one of the best seasons in his career.

  4. Morata is a proven champion. He has won La Liga, Serie A, the Champions League, and even the FIFA Club World Cup, as well as the recent Euro. He has leadership qualities and is the captain of the very successful Spain National Team. And people still complain, after we got him for the bargain of 13M Euro??? All this talk of 50M is utter nonsense as it includes his salaries for 5 years and all the other salary-related fees; well, duh, players are not slaves, they do work for a salary. Any other player would have a salary to earn, too. This is so incredibly stupid!

Is he a very prolific striker? No. But he scores enough, and works well for the offense; wingers score more when he is present, and we happen to have very good wingers. I think he will be very successful at Milan. At 31, he still has 3-4 good years in him, time enough for Camarda to develop. Remember, a much older Giroud did very well at Milan.

And no, Camarda can’t be the main option yet. He is 16!!! He doesn’t have the muscle development yet to face grown men center backs. It’s different from Yamal who is a winger. Did you see how poorly child-prodigy Endrick did in Copa America? Very young players cannot face grown men so well, when they play as strikers. Let’s allow Camarda to develop in Serie C with Milan Futuro. He will be great in a few years, but not yet.

I am very happy with this signing. This is a much better option than Zirkzee, who had ONE half-decent season with… Bologna!!! As opposed to Morata who is a known champion who has played for several leading European clubs and a national team. Zirkzee is not even good enough to be a starter for his national team, and I think he will warm Manchester United’s bench. What has Zirkzee won so far? Strictly nothing, and it’s laughable to compare him to a proven champion like Morata. Zirkzee for 55 M also creating the precedent of folding to his agent’s outrageous demands, was the stupid move of the year, and I am happy that Milan did not fall for this trap.

Welcome, Morata! Good luck! Just don’t listen to the negativity; you’ll be successful at Milan!

  5. I cant understand some ppl so dislike this signing and only want “promising younger strikers” (and they forgot about Andre Silva and Piatek cases). What funny also, if Milan sign 23 yo striker, for let say 30 mil, but then after 2 or 3 years sell hom for 100 mil, they will say the club is moneyball and no ambition. Meanwhile when the club sign proven striker with bargain price (bit downsode is most likely wont get return in sales in future due to the age), they will say the club has no vision or stupid in business.
Hey, I am far away from satisfied with overall performance of Milan management (such as pursuing Royal or salary cap thing that potentially make us losing our best players), but I am satisfied with Morata’s signing and decision not to pursue that “1 season above average (not wonder!) with greedy agent” Zirkzee.

  6. Face it, most on here have no idea what they are talking about. It’s quite clear from many comments that they never played more than school yard kickaround, clearly never coached, and have no idea how to run a business. They don’t know what they are looking at if they even do watch games. Complaining about things you are clueless about seems to be the number one pastime.
Arrogance and ignorance do not make a good combination, but a lot of posters here have both in droves.
