Reports: Pioli has doubts in midfield ahead of Sampdoria game – Tonali the only certainty

By Oliver Fisher -

Although Ismael Bennacer appears to be fit and healthy, he could start Saturday’s game against Sampdoria from the bench, a report claims.

According to the latest from SportMediaset (via MilanLive), Tonali seems likely to get the nod to face Sampdoria on Saturday lunchtime. In fact, the broadcaster has him as a certainly to start from the 1st minute against Claudio Ranieri’s side, since he has been working at Milanello since the beginning of this week.

Tonali returned earlier than his other team-mates from the international break due to a three-match suspension imposed on him by UEFA following a red card on U21 duty for Italy against the Czech Republic.

It is of course a sour incident but it is indirectly a good thing for Milan, who selfishly were happy to have the 20-year-old back even earlier than expected. Tonali will play on Saturday alongside Franck Kessie.

However, the editorial staff of Sky believe it will be Ismael Bennacer starting from the 1st minute instead of the Ivorian, as the former Empoli star returned to Milan on Tuesday after the match between Algeria and Botswana while Kessie will arrive later.
