Repubblica: Milan would accept one-year UEFA ban if in Europa League

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will accept a one-year ban from European competitions from UEFA if they do not qualify for the Champions League, it is claimed.

According to reports from La Repubblica, the Rossoneri leadership did not get in the good books of European football’s governing body by spending €70million on Lucas Paqueta and Krzysztof Piatek in January.

Milan are still dreaming of the Champions League via a top four finish, something which would drastically change the short term ambition of the club.

Tuesday’s edition of the newspaper states that Milan’s leadership will wait for the outcome on Sunday before deciding on a strategy for their talks with UEFA.

With a finish in the top four and qualification for the Champions League – which is worth €50million – Ivan Gazidis, Paolo Maldini and co. are ready for the legal battle with Nyon, in the case that the club are excluded from European competition.

In the case of Europa League instead – which is worth €20m – exile from European competitions for a year would be accepted because it is more painless.
