Repubblica: Milan must accelerate renewal talks as Chelsea offer €60m for star

By Oliver Fisher -

Mike Maignan is a goalkeeper being watched by a lot of the top teams around Europe and AC Milan have reportedly received a sizeable offer.

According to reports from this morning’s edition of La Repubblica (via MilanNews), Milan have received an offer from Chelsea for Maignan with the English side clearly in no mood to halt their previous spending spree.

They are in the market for a new first choice goalkeeper and the English club have offered €60m to try and sign France’s No.1, which reaffirms the need to enter into negotiations over a contract extension as soon as possible.

Maignan joined Milan on a five-year deal from Lille back in the summer of 2021 to replace the outgoing Gianluigi Donnarumma, for a reported fee of €15m (as per Wiki).

He has since become regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world thanks to his reflexes, distribution and leadership qualities, and the Rossoneri management will want to tie him down.

  1. All right. Can anyone tell me how they can spend so much? UEFA has its own rules and they haven’t even qualified for next season. I know the Premier League has huge revenues but this is really too much !

    1. They extend ammortisation over longer period of time by giving players contract fore more than 5 years.

And their revenue are much bigger than income from champions league.

    2. 8.5 year contracts so the purchase amount depriciated over that period. Eufa has changed it to 5 years after this transfer window

    3. they cant, they have to sell like 200m worth of players now or they are screwed in the next year

and if they keep missing CL its gonna get worse, its a gamble what they doing, not even sustainable, thats why people shouldnt wish for the same thing here

    1. What

Alison Becker went to Liverpool not Chelsea.
And since that Liverpool already got to CL final twice, wining one. What are you talking about

Even Kepa already won 1 UCL after transfer from Roma

  2. Think there are about 3-4 clubs that could tempt Mike to leave. Chealsea isnt among them.
Sure many clubs could give him a better salary but Mike doesnt strike me the type to be convinced just by that

  3. Mike is one of the smartest players in the squad not just on the field, off the field as well. He surely knows money is literally nothing considering how fast his career is going to forward if he stays involved in the Milan project for the next few years.
