Conceicao and Ibrahimovic

Repubblica: Conceicao ‘increasingly alone’ as Ibrahimovic refuses to take on Maldini role

Sergio Conceicao has had a tough first few months in charge of AC Milan. Initially, especially after the Supercoppa Italiana win, he enjoyed the support of the management but that is no longer the case, as per a report.

The management, with Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the helm, decided to replace Paulo Fonseca with his compatriot Conceicao just before the new year. They expressed great faith in the manager’s abilities then, but the situation has changed over the last few years.

After some honest post-match interviews by the manager, as well as a heated argument between him and Moncada after the Bologna defeat, the management wasn’t present at Milanello yesterday. This was reported in today’s edition of La Repubblica (via Calciomercato.com), stating that Conceicao is ‘increasingly alone’.

Furthermore, as the report continues, Ibrahimovic is refusing to take on a Paolo Maldini-esque role by acting as ‘a solitary lightning rod in moments of extreme difficulty’. The manager is thus having to deal with everything himself: the struggles on the pitch, the protests by Curva Sud and doubts of his players.

In short, there is no harmony in the club and within the management, tensions are rising as key figures are increasingly divided on where to go from here.

    1. Agreed. Bring a good Sporting director like Tare, bring back Maldini as Techincal director and let Furlani stay as CEO. Moncada and Ibrahimovic will have to leave.

Tare and Maldini will bring the players or type of players that the coach requests and Furlani stick to just the financial part.

Let Maldini also go back to be the ever presence at Milanello as the link between the management and players.

  1. How is that possible? We have a scout, a bank employee and a former footballer that is also a buffoon leading the club. Who could have expected this?

    1. If Gerry came to Sempre Milan and picked up 5 random people to lead the club it wouldn’t end up much worse than now. Maybe even better, people here would know they don’t know and would hire a sporting director and so on…

  2. As long as this club is run by a bunch of spineless cowards, we won’t get anywhere. Our performance is a reflection of our leadership. Non exsistent, mediocre and cowardly.

  3. Have been saying it for a very long time.
Scaroni, ibra, furlani and moncada are a bunch of clowns. They have turned milan into a dump and think they are gods. THEY HAVE NOT MADE ONE SINGLE CLEVER CHOICE OF A SUITABLE COACH AND THEY ARE ALL GUILTY OF THIS UNDIGNIFIED MESS. So Concencaio needs to go …. but why don’t they all leave as well?
Concencaio too is hopeless. Milan have no style of play, they just pass the ball sideways and back and back again with no intelligent sharp forward play.
Only excuse for the coach is that Leao is a lazy, sloppy fool who mostly trots aimlessly for 80 minutes per game and sometimes scores good goals and gives good assists.
Very worried that Concencaio has “burnt” milan in just a few months. Pulisic has vanished; Fofana has become a shadow; Gimenez hardly ever touches the ball; joao felix does not even stand near Kaka’s small toe; Maignan has become unsure and unsteady; and changing the 2 central defenders in every match is stupid.

The fact that after 2 or 3 years of Cardinale even the new stadium for milan is one big huge mess confirms that milan owner and management work blindly with no forward looking plans. They work on impromptu decisions and clearly are all out of their depth.
