Repubblica: Fonseca keen on keeping winger but Chiesa swap ‘cannot be ruled out’

Alexis Saelemaekers was one of the best players for AC Milan during the pre-season and Paulo Fonseca immediately took a liking to the player. However, according to a report, a swap deal with Juventus still cannot be ruled out.

Saelemaekers returned from his loan spell at Bologna at the start of this summer and he was used heavily in pre-season. Above all, he impressed and Fonseca has praised the player multiple times, keen on keeping him for this season.

As reported by La Repubblica (via MilanNews), Thiago Motta still wants to reunite with Saelemaekers at Juventus and an attempt could be made by the club. It will likely be unsuccessful, but a potential swap deal involving Federico Chiesa ‘cannot be ruled out’ as things stand.

Chiesa isn’t part of the Bianconeri’s project anymore and he would certainly be a good signing for Milan, given his versatility in attack. Furthermore, he would take up one of the ‘association-trained’ slots on the squad list, which in turn would free up one of the main slots.

However, once again, Fonseca would like to keep Saelemaekers and could even play him from the first minute against Torino tonight.
