Repubblica: How Pioli’s move could help Milan in their Zirkzee pursuit

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan might just have received a rather surprise assist in their pursuit of Joshua Zirkzee by Stefano Pioli, according to a report.

The reason? La Repubblica (via Calciomercato.com) explains that Pioli’s choice to accept the Al Ittihad job in Saudi Arabia – where he will replace Marcelo Gallardo – means Milan will not have to pay the last year of his deal.

Getting rid of the expense of Pioli’s remaining 12 months and that of his staff should save the club around €10m gross which could be automatically allocated to the transfer budget. The main target remains Zirkzee, with the €15m Kia Joorabchian commissions holding up the deal.

An injection of money that was initially unforeseen could change the Rossoneri’s position. With Pioli in Saudi Arabia, the club only have Paulo Fonseca on the payroll, who has signed a three-year contract worth €2.5m net per season for the first two years, with a salary of over €3m in the third year.

Kia was in Milan yesterday, but there has been no confirmation regarding a meeting with Milan. However, if there were some movement regarding the signing-on bonuses then things could move quickly given the willingness to pay the clause and the verbal agreement over terms.

  1. Idle speculation, nor will saving costs mean anything for this transfer. If Zirkzee’s release clause was €50 million, Milan would probably still pay it. They cannot pay the third highest commission in history because all other agents will ask for high commissions, they’ll see Milan as a soft touch.

    1. Mr Hulk they rather invest the money on your twin Lukaku, it’s a shame to see the current mentality of Milan management team and some fans.

  2. At this point, any post about Zirkzee is Milan look like a circus club.
Just move on from this guy already. There is no chance we will pay 15 mil

Juve midfield is already on another level.
Next year, we will fight for 4th position against Atalanta and Roma as things stand

  3. We can afford 55m.

But is it worth it compared to alternatives? 40m maybe. 55m (and a free invite for agents to take the Michael) maybe not.

  4. his price is fine, its the agent who causing problems. If milan caves in, then other agents will want to do the same. got to stop that as soon as possible

  5. The supposedly saved money from Pioli shouldn’t be going into increasing agent commissions. If we believe certain amount is right then mustn’t pay anymore than that even when some free 100m magically adds to our accounts. That’s what Kia should be made aware of. In fact after the Pioli money Milan should make a new agent fee proposal of 0.5m less than previously offered just to p.ss the enemy off lol

  6. I do not support paying the greedy agent that absurd commission. I’d even be angry if we signed the player and paid high commission. I have made peace and applaud the management if we end up not signing Joshua. After Dollaruma and the snake alongside the soap opera of Leao’s renewal, I’d pay to not have similar renewal drama in the future.

  7. I feel Zirkzee has the talent to replace G. Nobody else. He’s worth it. Then, defenders of quality. Play Musah at right back. Then, two defensive midfielders that are better than Bennecer.
