Repubblica: Ibrahimovic is the real reason behind the Boban-Gazidis fallout

By Oliver Fisher -

There is more to the clash between Ivan Gazidis and Zvonimir Boban than just the contacting of Ralf Rangnick, a report claims.

Boban’s sacking as Chief Football Officer was made official over the weekend on the back of a revealing interview which he gave to La Gazzetta dello Sport, during which he criticised Gazidis for contacting Rangnick without consulting the management.

According to what La Repubblica are reporting this morning (via Calciomercato.com), the real factor that led to the clash between Gazidis and Boban concerns Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Croatian pushed hard for the Rossoneri to secure his return in January, something they were eventually able to make happen due to the savings on Caldara and Reina.

After the impact that the 38-year-old has had, Boban had expected there to be more proactivity to try and keep him for another season, something which appears not to be the case.

Meanwhile, it is being reported that Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara will remain in office until the end of the season when they too will leave.
