AC Milan and Inter have expressed a willingness to further evaluate the idea of renovating San Siro rather than moving out, according to a report.
For some time now it has been known that Milan have decided to build a new facility in the San Francesco area, in the region of San Donato Milanese. Things proceeded, with the land bought and the Program Agreement process underway, suggesting that it was a final decision.

This is despite the fact that the Rossoneri and Inter have always kept open a glimmer of hope on the possibility of renovating San Siro, in the event that there was the opportunity to play there even during the Webuild works.
Now, according to the newspaper La Repubblica (via PianetaMilan), Milan and Inter have taken a step back from their initial decisions, which were to build their own new state of the art homes.
The Nerazzurri would drop the Rozzano idea and the Diavolo would set aside the idea of building in San Donato Milanese. This is with a view to renovating San Siro for a total of €500m, to be split between the two clubs.
This would also mean that there is no longer the possibility of hosting the Champions League final in 2027, because of the time that the works would take to complete.

This is an extremely bad idea. These 2 clubs need their own separate stadiums, if they don’t get their stadiums they will never grow, and will even be surpassed in future by smaller clubs
Bayern & Hertha share a Stadium and it works out fine .
San Siro is a legendary stadium known around the world such as the Bernabau & Camp Nou ,they renovated those stadiums because Fans love them. Should Milan & Inter buy it then it would make total sense to split the costs.
What? Hertha Berlin and Bayern Munich??
Or is there a munich hertha? Or a leverkusen hertha? Since Bayer could also be meant…
Nobody is talking about buying it. Milan and Inter would continue to pay rent to the city. This is a terrible idea. One reason Juve is ahead of us in terms of spending income for signings is that the rules are such that spending and income are tied to each other, and Juve earns a lot more because they own their stadium. We will never be competitive enough if we don’t own ours. If we were to own San Siro (even half of it with Inter) than I’m all for it, but if San Siro continues to be own by the city of Milano, then it’s a terrible idea.
To me this only could possibly make sense if they are also going to purchase the stadium from the city, which was reported a while back. No mention of that in this report.
Reminder:
The only purpose of Cardinale is new stadium for Milan.
Rubbish. At no point was that the ‘only’ purpose. The idea was to build a new 🏟️ which they would own. That both Milan and Inter have forced the council to effectively renovate and sell the San Siro is a good compromise.
Yes, save San Siro, one of the greatest stadiums on Earth!!
This would result in less of a debt burden on the club.
Obviously it is dependent on the ownership rights passing to the 2 clubs (which the mayor has indicated is part of the propossal).
Seems a good solution
Unless Redbird are adamant about building a stadium. Which they would be able to make a lot of money out of the construction project
So Milan and inter will have to split the bill to renovate San Siro just so the city can continue charging them rent.
Build your own stadium, Leave San Siro and separate from inter.
You didn’t read, the idea is they will buy the San Siro from the council, paying €250 million each.
€500m is just the rennovation cost. It does not buy the stadium.
A good owner is a visioneer… Arsenal built theirs, Tottenham built theirs, Madrid and Barcelona clubs with serious value and owners renovated…but these so called Milanese clubs will rather get pushed around! Rather gets liberated by owing your own property…what an owner
I can only share my opinion as a fan actually living in Milan and going to San Siro regularly, which I believe is not common practice among people commenting here, and I would be very happy to continue like that. It’s true that the stadium is old, bathrooms and stands are terrible, entrance is pain in the a$$ but with renovations it should be fine.
Most people here asking for a new stadium have never been to San Siro or have never seen it. It’s maybe the most legendary stadium in Europe, it looks like a monument outside and inside. Also it’s within Milan. This is not America, people don’t like to drive around when they can avoid it. Most people go to San Siro walking or with the metro. San Donato is far and more expensive as it’s not in the metro urban area. Facciamo i chilometri, superiamo i ostacoli ma non cosi.
Don’t assume things about other people. Yes, I go regularly to San Siro. Yes, I love San Siro and how easy it is to get there by subway. But not owning our own stadium hurts revenues and makes us not competitive with Juve (they own theirs). Most major clubs that are financially solid in Europe own their stadiums. Spending 250 M Euro to renovate San Siro but continue to pay rent to the city and continue to pass on the revenue boost of owning a stadium is extremely stupid. If Milan (even with Inter) were to purchase the stadium from the city, then, fine. But not owning it is really stupid.
Part of the plan as outlined by the mayor on many occasions is to sign over ownership.
He just wants the clubs to stay in Milan
I didn’t say that I am the only one here, I said we are few. And I’m in favour of buying San Siro. Inter is short of money right now, just buy San Siro and make them pay the rent until they leave. I’m tired of these Inter flags all around the city. Have you seen the two stars painted all over the city center, Cairoli, Navigli, Piazza dei Mercanti? It would be a nice revenge.
Part of the agreement includes selling the stadium to the 2 clubs.
How much more need to be paid as €500m is just for rennovation?
The melancholy truth is San Siro can still be very good if it is properly renovated, but the question is, will the city council still own it, or will both clubs buy it…?
The thing is a clubs as big and prestigious as Both Milan and Inter need their own separate space , and separate identity, both in terms of ego and prestige, and also the financial benefits, as it is with all their trophies, past glories, past Champions and great players, they are both not in the top 10 of giant European clubs in terms of financial power, which they can only get if they own their own stadiums, and in the years to come other clubs will surpass them if they don’t get their own arenas, right now they are the only major club in Europe that share a stadium, someone mentioned Bayern sharing their stadium with 1860 Munich, that ended years ago, 1860 Munich plays in another stadium, but another solution is let one of them buy it, then the other go and build another Stadium somewhere, besides alot of objections have arisen by people who live around the San Siro about the use of some areas, it’s not just about the Stadium, the other parts of the area also need to be used for other services the clubs will render. just like the plan made for the area Milan is planning to build their stadium.
What is the point of stockpiling money at some point? They won’t solve world hunger. At some point, enough is enough, this club has money and it’s growing but what a football club needs to win is a good management. All these fairy tales about the need for a stadium to become relevant are bs from Wall Street brokers and I doubt that they have the same motivation as the fans.
Look what is happening now. Milan cleared the debt, has an incredible growth but the ambition and the management skills are not here to benefit from it.
Sala said he’s open to sell San Siro and it’s in his best interest to do so. If Milan and Inter don’t want to rent anymore, Sala would be almost forced to sell.
It is not a bad idea to renovate and purchase the stadium for local authority. Real Madrid has just completed renovating their stadium. Barca is doing same. Man U is planning same. The most important things are: ownership and state-of-art-facilities
Really dumb idea.. build your own and make money. Don’t want to be broke and need to sell/purge best players later
