Repubblica: Pioli blocks Gabbia’s exit while Romagnoli could yet remain

AC Milan must now change their plans for the defensive department after missing out on Sven Botman and an exit has reportedly been blocked.

According to La Repubblica (via MilanNews), head coach Stefano Pioli has decided to block the sale of Matteo Gabbia who is in the sights of Sampdoria. No reason is given the decision, but it could be that there simply is not adequate cover in place at the moment given that Botman will not be arriving.

Moreover, the paper claims that it cannot be excluded that Milan relaunch to try and secure the renewal of Alessio Romagnoli, who is out of contract at the end of this month and has been heavily linked with Lazio.

In terms of a new signing, the management are looking for a low cost solution to reinforce the back line such as Arthur Theate of Bologna, while they are in negotiations with Lazio for Francesco Acerbi.
