AC Milan and Inter initially declared their intention to build a new stadium together four years ago, but now their paths seem to have split for good.

As reported by La Repubblica (via PianetaMilan) this morning, Milan and Inter launched a joint project for a new stadium back in 2019. It even got to the point of choosing a design – the ‘Cathedral’ by the Popolous studio – but now the idea has vanished.
Over the years the project has stalled, sometimes hindered by politics, sometimes by bureaucracy, often by citizens. The slowdown became definitive when the Superintendency decided to place a restriction on the current San Siro, making even partial demolition impossible.
The Council of Milan have sent a letter to Milan and Inter making official the presence of this constraint and thus probably putting an end to any plans of a join stadium next to the current San Siro for good.
However, Mayor Giuseppe Sala asked the two ownership groups to make an official choice on the shared stadium project in Milan in the latter. The Council want to know whether Milan and Inter still intend to move forward together and how.
A solution that seems more likely is that the idea is shelved and the clubs go their own way. The Rossoneri are likely to move to San Donato Milanese while the Nerazzurri are – admittedly a bit behind – studying a move to Rozzano.
