After being the 2024/25 Serie A Capocannoniere, many would assume that Mateo Retegui would be unsellable. But, AC Milan are finding that this is not the case.

Last season, Retegui was phonemenal for La Dea, scoring 25 goals in Serie A. For many, that would be enough for him to remain in Bergamo for a while longer. However, it appears that this may not be the case.

In recent months, there has been a lot said about Milan’s interest in the striker, more so due to Massimiliano Allegri’s request. With the rumours, Retegui’s name has been ever-present, more so since Igli Tare’s admission of an Olivier Giroud-type striker.

Now, it appears the biggest piece of information has been revealed and it could make or break the Rossoneri’s pursuit.

Not unsellable

As Calciomercato.com writes this afternoon, the striker is not explicity for sale. However, he is not unsellable, far from it. To Ivan Juric, the Italian would be a central part of his team, but Atalanta are also aware of the market.

In fact, the report states that for around €60 million, Retegui could leave, especially as Gianluca Scamacca is showing signs of a resurgence.

The Diavolo will not be the only interestested party, and the report states that Al Qadisiah are interested in a move and are willing to present an offer of €50-60m. It will have to be seen if the offer can be matched by Milan.

  1. Can’t seriously be considering that money to sign him, a year after passing on him for a quarter of that. Along with the spend on Gimenez, it would be something like a 75M mistake of the directors.

  2. If Igli Tare said that Milan is looking for a Olivier Giroud striker, why would Retegui be of interest for Milan?
He is not good at holding up the ball or playing with his back to the goal, nor that good in the build up. He is very similar to Gimenez.
Dobvyk, Embolo, Lucca. Scamacca much better suited.
I don’t know what is the health status of Scamacca, but if you gonna shop for a striker at Atalanta, that’s the striker you should go for.

    1. If Mitrovic wants to come back to Europe, he should be the main target for Milan. He’d be great in serie A.

    2. Embolo, oof, no. Lucca is the right profile. He ticks all of the boxes, is young, is Italian. Scamacca after that, but with a big asterisk due to his health.

If only we could go back in time and grab Hugo Ekitike for 16M instead of Morata for 13.5M. What a miss..

  3. Retegui or Osi will be great,
but i don’t think ST is our priority, we’ve Gimenez, what we need is his rotation/ backup.
we lack creativity from MF, we’ve only Modric & our defence is awful, hope Jashari & Leoni will be the solution if they come,
& for backup ST, i’ve unpopular name but i think it can be good solution, Pierre Aubameyang.
we’ll get him easily if Al Qadisiah got Retegui/ any new ST, he guarantee goals, rich exp & HG Milanista

  4. What about a guy like Josh Sargent from the championship? We don’t need to spend 60 million on a new striker just to back up Gimenez. Would prefer we spend that money on an Italian CB.
