MN: Ricci open to January Milan move – management could bring planned investment forward

AC Milan have had a difficult season so far and with the squad remaining incomplete, the management might just act in January.

As MilanNews report, the position in the table, the protests from the fans and the growing tension around the team are making the directors reflect. The most pressing matter as we approach the January mercato seems to be a lack of midfield depth.

Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders are two essential players, but they cannot play every single minute. Ismael Bennacer’s return will be a boost but we must see the level he is at, while Yunus Musah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are both injured and not natural double pivot players.

As a result, Fonseca had to adapt Filippo Terracciano to play alongside Fofana in Verona, with zero alternatives. In the summer, an error of judgment was made regarding the number of midfielders in the squad and it was hoped that more help would come from Milan Futuro.

The combination of all these dynamics is leading the management to evaluate the possibility of bringing forward a midfield signing to January that was planned for the summer. The main name circulating in that regard is Samuele Ricci of Torino.

He is a midfielder who has grown a lot in recent years and who Milan have been monitoring for months, in addition to having followed him during his time at Empoli. The player would be happy to move to Milan as early as next month, yet negotiating with Urbano Cairo is tough.

Milan also want to monitor the foreign market, as there is a strong feeling that many big clubs – especially Manchester City, Manchester United and PSG – could spark a domino effect that could open up opportunities that are not foreseeable at present.

    1. It works as it would give Rijnders the freedom to push forward and that would help when teams play the ‘low block’ against us as we then instantly have another option in attack thus allowing us to overload the defensive units if teams employing the ‘low block’.

Ricci could be the making of Fonseca and his tactics

  1. Ricci would be an actual smart, quality purchase. So obviously, he’ll end up at another club with actual ambition and competent management. And ours will go sign belhayne for a cut price 10mil, and claim he solves the problems we have

  2. The summer looks more realistic. Don’t expect Milan to lay out such an investment in January unless we can move on some deadwood…the competition will be tough…nice opportunity for Milan to make a statement with this signing though.

    1. If they really wanted him, they’d sign him for €30 million, they have the money, but my guess is that know Moncada has made a disaster of building the squad and Bonera has been useless so they’ll try to move 4-5 players in the summer so that they can move for Ricci and a striker.

  3. Ahhhhh….there are still some who naively believe Redbird will drop over 40M for a player LOLOLOLO

Did you not read Gerry’s Harvard Journal article??

    Crazy

Ibra said we the team was set no?? Why was Musah even purchased if he can’t play in double pivot lol – to be a RW??? Vos the last min signing who we were told could make the jump to the first team? Terracciano the RB that wasn’t now a DM – sort of? Yikes

    What a disaster.

Our “signing” will be the return of Bennacer.

And as long as we have Fonseca as coach – no signing will fix us. It’s systemic.

      1. If Inter get him they are set for a long time, with Fratassi, Berella and Ricci we would fall to far behind, so not only do we need to sign Ricci or we risk Inter becoming formidable in midfield

  4. Ricci can be bought for around 30mil. Honestly thats not that expensive on todays market. Also mid of Reijndiers, Fofana, Ricci reminds me of Hamsik, Allan, Jorginjo back in Napoli. Maybe bring Sarri or Xhavi for 4-3-3 too.

      1. I think Liberali has long way to go. He just turned 17. No need to rush. He is left footed and can be played as a RW too. But with time he will be strong enough to play as a mid too. Simmilar like Brahim Diaz. For now he needs to train and be given a chance from time to time as a back up. If we play 4-3-3 i think Pobega and Adli can be brought back and find succses in that formation too since both are more attack oriented. We can really have a good mid with back up and all but i doubt it will happen honestly.

        1. It’s not our decision in terms of Pobega and Adli… Bologna and Fiorentina have buy out clauses and since both succeeded in their spells, we can expect close to 25M in the summer.

I’m more looking forward to Saelemakers, he is better than Okafor and Chukwueze. Chukwueze has problem in the final area, his long left-foot shots are too inconsistent and those crosses are horrendous. Puli being injured and placed in CAM role gave him enough chances but he still isn’t close to what we expected him to be…

Leao-Puli on flanks with Saelemkaers and another one there would give us better flanks. Morata and Camarda as subs in ST role with the hope of we get an actual striker instead of Abraham… that along with starter RB are the biggest holes we have atm…

          1. O yea Salamakers at this time would def be an upgrade over Chuk on the wing. Best part is when he comes from the bench he is very energetic too, something that we lack when we chase games. For striker i think we missed out on Retegui for 20mil. But then again with someone like Sarri or Xhavi they dont play with target man so Morata/Colombo might do good under that kind of style.

  5. But after the transfer window:

Milan out of Ricci race and Inter ends up signing him…Milan signed some Chelsea reject and claims that they signed a superstar.

  6. My bet is on Moncada’s wet dream Bondo in January. Monza are reportedly willing to let him go for 10 millions. Cheap, foreign, with potential for a resell. RedTurd esque signing.

  7. Funny to read comments that fans actually believe that Gerry Cheapinale would invest 25-30+ million on a Italian player or on a player overall hahaha.
Their American Anti Italian Moneyball Computer that is made for Baseball gonna tell them to a cheap player that no one have heard of like for example Noé Lebreton.
