Goalkeeper claims Milan called him ‘not long ago’ after PSG release

Sergio Rico has claimed that AC Milan expressed an interest in signing him and that he would like to play in Italy at some point in his career.

Rico is now 30 years of age and he made a name for himself with Sevilla, where he came through the academy and appeared in well over 150 games, also winning the UEFA Europa League twice during his time with his hometown club.

After loan spells at Fulham (2018-19) and PSG (2019-20), he joined the French giants in 2020 and spent four years there but never really broke into the side. Rico has one Spain cap and is currently a free agent after his deal at PSG expired.

Rico spoke during an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio in which he reflected on his career to date and the injury that he suffered, while also talking about what the future holds.

“Now I just want to get back on the pitch. Maybe in Italy. I love it  I’ve had many Italian coaches and team-mates,” he said (via PianetaMilan).

“Various teams called me in the past: Napoli was the first, then Lazio. Not long ago Milan too. And then there’s great warmth in your football: it reminds me a lot of what I experienced in Seville.”

Di Marzio himself reported that Rico was a target for Milan in January 2023 when Mike Maignan suffered an injury and Ciprian Tatarusanu was struggling.
