Gianni Rivera has offered his services to the AC Milan ownership in the hopes that he can help them redesign the club after a difficult season.
As we approach the final straight of the 2024-25 season, it would be fair to say that it is currently destined to be a negative one despite winning the Supercoppa Italiana at the beginning of the calendar year.
Milan are six points away from the Champions League places with some tough fixtures to come and they sit ninth in the table, so there is a chance of not playing any European football at all next season.
In the meantime the management face some big decisions, such as the choice of a new sporting director, the head coach to replace Sergio Conceicao and a potential squad overhaul given the disappointing campaign.
Rivera did an interview with Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) which was published this morning, and he offered his thoughts regarding the current state of Milan, even offering a hand to fix it.
Who do you like among the Italy squad?
“Some players have quality, like Barella or Tonali, but we need something more, especially up front. It’s also nice to see Paolo Maldini’s son and Cesare’s grandson in the Azzurri.”
There is not even one Milan player in the national team…
“There are also few Italians in Milan. Evidently they no longer believe in the policies that the Baresi and Maldini created.”
There’s Camarda though, someone who like you made his debut at 15…
“If the boy has quality he has to play. I didn’t make my debut at 15 to sit on the bench. And he has to believe in himself.”
Milan are not doing well…
“First of all, we need to redesign the club. If they want me as a consultant, I could give good advice. I can do everything, from president to coach and play the last six minutes…”

How many goals would Leao score with Rivera behind him?
“A lot. He’s a guy who loves to attack spaces, he would be my ideal arrow like Altafini, Prati and Maldera were.”
Milan did not even invite you to their 125th anniversary celebrations…
“Maldini, Boban, Altafini were also missing… I’m in good company! Of course, Milan without its history is not Milan. But what do you expect Americans to know about history and football?”
Only Rivera 😂😂
This is why we love Gianni
His right! How do you expect American business men to know about football (soccer). All they are interested in is making money 💰
Yeah what do they know? Let’s see,
The team that is going to win the Premier League this year is American owned. Liverpool
The team that is going to win Serie A this year is American owned. Inter
Throw in Atalanta as well.
Such poorly run clubs.
What do they know.
It’s also an American player that is the only reason Milan is not getting relegated this season.
We just inherited the bad ones or worst ones I guess.
Inter is run by a hedge fund, they do not intend to keep control of the club by any means. Same to what Elliot did here. Let’s have a look at Arsenal, Roma, Chelsea, Milan, Arsenal haven’t won a league title in 20 years, Chelsea has fallen apart, Roma has been a mess every season, inconsistent, and we’ve slipped out of competing seriously for a title and in Europe, structure is a mess, club is a mess. With Ivan Gazidis on board we had a man with a head on his shoulders, here we have Ibra and Moncada
Chelsea is top 4 in Premier League . In fact, 3 of the top 4 clubs in the Premier League right now are American owned clubs.
And yes thanks for pointing out that it was Elliot an American hedge fund that turned Milan around, made it profitable and brought them their 1st Scudetto in 10 years.
combine all those clubs trophies under American owners is still less than what we’ve got under Berlusconi or Perez, Laporta, Franz..
but but but they’ve longer time.. let’s count their 1st 5y only
Keep living in the past. You mean before Financial Fair Play was introduced in 2011, which coincidentally was the last time Milan won the Scudetto before the Americans Elliot came in and won again in 10 years later. Milan did so well in between then , right?
The difference between Elliot and Redturd is the former had the sense to put people(not americans) in place who knew what they were doing, also keeping hold of club legends
What are you even talking about? Who are the Americans who were put in place that are making decisions? Furlani? Scaroni? Zlatan? Moncada? Not a one of them.
Next argument?
well spoken sir
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
#GET ELLIOT / REDBIRD OUT.
the self proclaim die hard super fans of current Milan be like.. who the heII is this Rivera?
Class old guy, doesn’t give a sh1t about offending people, just says it how it is
The legendary Gianni Rivera – a Renaissance artist; 1969 Ballon-d’Or winner; the Golden Boy of Italian football; one of ACM’s most talismanic figures.
Who’ll ever forget his match-winning performance for the Rossoneri against Ajax in the 1969 European Cup final? And the decisive goal he scored for the Azzurri against West Germany in the 1970 World Cup Semi Final? And – tragically – manager Ferruccio Valcareggi’s appalling decision to bring him on only in the last 6 minutes of the 1970 World Cup Final against Brazil, after Italy had gone behind 1-3 and the game was effectively lost, instead of deploying him from the start of the match or at least from the beginning of its second half?
What an injustice that was! One of the finest players on the planet – the Italian who Pele said he feared the most – cruelly denied the opportunity to display his talents on the greatest stage.
Thank you for publishing this interview with Rivera. He has a dry sense of humor.
Well he’s 100% accurate that Gerry knows 0 about running a football club. But neither does Furlani, the Italian banker. Hopefully they learn sooner rather than later…
